biz stuff about meSorry, point taken. And yes back in the 1920's the British were an occupation force along with a 1/3 of the globe. A lot has changed since then. I was referring to more recent times with terrorist groups - post world wars where a lot has been learnt with western countries realising war it not so great for prosperity, unless you vastly overwhelm the opposition in battle. In my note I was saying we can learn from history, and cited the eventual success though political means rather than just killing everyone who opposed. There are still many issues to be resolved, but Northern Ireland is much more peaceful than it was back in the 70's.

Oh, very very true. They way I look at it is that it is natural for people to agree with their leaders (and I mean ideological leaders). This is to be expected. I just want people to have that grain of doubt always eating away at them. They might not be able to see initial wrong doing, but they should see patterns of abuse. Tim Smith "Programmers are always surrounded by complexity; we can not avoid it... If our basic tool, the language in which we design and code our programs, is also complicated, the language itself becomes part of the problem rather that part of the solution." don't forget America also live under a Wacko (George W. Bush). I went to the anti-war demonstration in London yesterday, where 400,000 people marched to stop the attack in Iraq and Free Pallistine. The best thing I read was Bush is another name for CUNT

Europe's history of politics, government, invasions, slaughter, war, etc... is available to all of mankind as lessons learned and therefore does not give Europeans any added insight to current world affairs. Name the major European countries whose current form of government is older than the US's. Not many, huh?

Noone learns a lesson from the history book. And the day the USA are willing to learn something from another country will get a big red mark in my calendar. In the center of my town is (almost:was) the ruin of a church, just some scorched arcs. About half a million people have seen this artifact on a rather nice place maybe once a week. They know how war looks like. This is but one little thingie. The european landscape is scattered with monuments telling of the defeat of proud warriors. These things don't go unnoticed: art, culture - from fines literature to fairy tales, music, paintings, everything roots in a conglomerate of nations that once fought a war until they were tired of it. Only to see the next generation do the same bullshit again. Be happy you had a comparedly good start. Name the number of times you've rebuild your country from a pile of ashes and stones. name the number of times a place or house in your city was evacuated because of a WW2 bomb or mine. The history of the US is a history of eradicating aborigenees, and importing africans to do your work. Step down from your pedestal, your comparedly straight walk through history doesn't give you more insight either.

You'll have to open your eyes. ;) peterchen wrote: The european landscape is scattered with monuments telling of the defeat of proud warriors. Travel thru the east part of the US and you'll see monuments from our revolution as well as our civil war. Battlefields where tens of thousands died. Travel to Hawaii and see the sunken Arizona at Pearl Harbor. There is a travelling granite wall memorial to Vietnam veterans. Not to mention the gaping hole in NYC. We are not nearly as naive to war as you think. peterchen wrote: Step down from your pedestal, your comparedly straight walk through history doesn't give you more insight either. Ummm...
