12-year-old Junior High School student ARRESTED and taken out in handcuffs[^] for doodling on her desk. We have some really stupid people in New York City... I mean, there are stupid people everywhere, but the sheer population density ensures that we have more of them than most other places. The kid draws on her desk with an erasable marker, and they arrest her, lead her out in cuffs, detain her at the police station for a few hours, then sentence her to community service. I've said it before, and I'll say it again..... That about wraps it up for humanity.

Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in? Author of Guardians of Xen (Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel)

Franky, they need to drop this zero tolerance bullshit all together. If someone does something wrong once, tell them they screwed up. It happens again THEN deal with them. I say this as someone who was on the receiving end of a 'zero tolerance' policy toward fighting, never mind I was the one being jumped, I was fighting(as I had no intention of dropping without harming them) so I got suspended. Now, this is Zero Tolerance right? So obviously if it happened more than once someone would pay a real price right? Not even close. See, since the other side consisted of three people who swore I started it they couldn't actually do anything, no matter how many people who had nothing to do with the fight said they started it. Or so they claimed. So stir this for a year or so, including another two incidents that the administration catches, now finally we're looking at some real punishment. Yep, they're going to kick me out of school completely because of all that fighting I was losing. After all, they said I started it every time. Suffice to say I got them jumping me on camera once and it finally got taken care of, they still wanted to kick me out of school, but the only evidence they had against me was the word of three people they had on tape jumping me as I sat there waiting to get to school. All three of them were suspended, and permanently kicked off the school's busing system. I believe I got a week of in school anyway. Funny thing happened after that, I wasn't 'starting fights' anymore. See, not only did they get caught on camera jumping me, they got caught jumping me and losing. So they no longer wanted to play and suddenly found far better things to do than harass me, like explain to their parents what the hell they did to get kicked off the buses. But thanks to those wonderful zero-tolerance policies(which included the bit about determining who started it) I nearly got booted from school for self defense, repeatedly. Until they actually did something about the source of the problem.

See, if we obeyed the law, you'd be considered to have been defending yourself, and you would have not had a problem at all. As for the doodling story, that's just a good way to show you that we're headed into the police state. One where "government knows all" and "you're destroying public property, you should be shot."

I got swing at while getting books from my locker once. The teacher walked up after being told there was a fight.   All she saw was a guy unconscious by my locker, a giant dent in my locker door, and me finishing packing. "What happened." "He slipped and fell face first into the locker.   Three or four times." I walked to my bus and left. I never got in trouble for that.   He apparently asked what I said and confirmed it.   Looks like these idiots could have used a little bit of common sense.   3 to 1 and you beat em, good man. Zero tolerance makes zero sense. First time I saw an example of it in action I told the administrator they were a complete moron if they enforced it.   "You are opening the door for more law suits than you are solving."   8 months later the district settled out of court.   They changed policies.

Once, my ratio against them was miserable, but it was certainly a learning experience and once you manage that people stop screwing with you.

Yea, but man talk about embarrassing.   To not only keep trying to kick you around and fail to cow you, but then get caught on tape getting beaten.   :) /salute

One of the best moments of my life happened when I was 13-14. I was in the front yard working with my dad. Some punk-a** kid from school came along with his friends and said, "I would kick your a**, but your dad is here." My dad said, "Don't let that stop you." The wanker jumped the fence in the front yard. I royally kicked his a** in front of my dad and all of his friends. Thinking about that is bringing a smile to my face.
