    I know a few people that commute to south austin from SA and there appears to be more jobs up here. It might be something to consider if things get dire.

    I can imagine the sinking feeling one would have after ordering my book, only to find a laughably ridiculous theory with demented logic once the book arrives - Mark McCutcheon

    I've a neighbor who commutes from Far North Dallas (Frisco) to Houston. The guy is very bright but has just had a bad run lately; I think he has been laid off 4 times in the last three years.

      I hope that isn't a daily commute. I'm not a fan of I-45, though I can't imagine that it is as congested as I-35 is these days.

        Working for a contract company is full time permanent work. You just work at a client site but get a full benefits package from the contract company. My previous contract company lost the new contract negotiations last year so the new contract company picked up all incumbents for the new contract which was signed by the client for the next 7 years. The client happens to be a government agency which will not go out of business. Sounds like a more permanent solution in this economy than trying to get full time permanent work which turns out to be not so permanent after all.
