ZX81 and .NET

I can't believe that people are asking 45 quid for a ZX81. here[^] I would have to shell out just over a million quid just to install the .NET framework and that's before I run any apps. (for those born in 1983, the ZX81 was one of the first home PCs. It came out in 1982 with such epic games such as 3D monster maze. It came with 1k memory but you could upgrade it to a truly awesome 16k with a Ram pack you plugged in the back. If you wobbled it whilst it was turned on you lost all your data. You could also buy a printer that printed on toilet roll.) www.beachwizard.com/travelogue[^] "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered" George Best.

I never had a ZX81, but I've spent a lot of money on Amiga gear lately. It's nostalgia, you can't fight it, and when I die, it will be because of people like me and whoever buys that ZX81 that it will be possible for someone to build a museum of how the computing revolution started. And it was a brazilian clone (CP-200) which had the "Fast/Slow" option, too! Oh, how I miss those 32 x 24 B&W screens! Sir Clive Sinclair invented Intelissense with those magic keyboards! For those who don't know, the 3Mhz Z80 processor was responsible for screen updating and about 90% of CPU power was dedicated to this. So, you had this command "FAST" that disabled screen refresh while you was drawing something and the "SLOW" when your program was idle. You should see how flashy a screen could get in a game like Maze 3d with this FAST/SLOW switching! You would see color spots for hours! Q261186 - Computer Randomly Plays Classical Music

I keep mine just to show to the next generations the begining of the computing industry :) adamUK wrote: It came with 1k memory but you could upgrade it to a truly awesome 16k with a Ram pack you plugged in the back. If you wobbled it whilst it was turned on you lost all your data I went to pieces sometimes because of this $@!% extension. I had also another option, a small enhanced keyboard to glue on the original sensitive one. Ah, souvenirs...

I wonder what you can do with 1KB of memory these days. I guess that's just enough to put a MS product name, but not much more...
How low can you go ?
