Dawkins trying to get Pope Arrested

See Here[^] He does make a convincing point. The priesthood is not above the law, and the Sodomizing of children should not be made legal by dint of a dog-collar!

I am not supporting what the pope or the church did. Totally outside of this, Dawkins is an asshole.

A highly educated and intelligent one then. And I agree with his posture on religion.

Howsoever obnoxious the acts were, visiting Heads of State have immunity from criminal prosecution unless the State from which the Head comes from gives permission for prosecutions to occur. State Immunity Act 1978 and Diplomatic Privileges Act 1964 are relevant. And the Pope is Head of State.

Vatican State. Absolute ruler he is. See here http://www.vaticanstate.va/EN/State_and_Government/StateDepartments/index.htm[^]
Ex-Officio Ruler he is. Also the Vatican is not recognised as a state in the UN, as the UN recognises the Holy See as the state and that is different from the Vatican. Also Immunity is only granted to crimes committed whilst in office. Also Immunity is not granted on Crimes Against Humanity, and Institutionalised Rape and Sexual Abuse is both a War Crime and a Crime Against Humanity and is therefore exempt from the immunity. Personally, I think he could be in trouble.

You could be right. However, a huge mess ensues if he is arrested.

When I've seen him interact with people, he is quick to call names, and avoids any real debate. I call him an asshole because of how he argues about it. That is why I think he is an asshole, not because of what he believes.

Taiwan isn't recognized by the UN either (thanks to Nixon).

I don't think there is anything saying he supported it while he was Pope, only before. So I don't think he is liable for it, as head of state.

That's the point, he smothered it before taking office, therefore he is responsible as a private individual, and therefore ihe is liable to prosecution.

Can you give an example? I've not observed that.

Good. The bastard should be rotting in prison like any other molestor. He's an accessory after the fact in multiple cases. It's time these bastards faced the law. Real law, not their imaginary bullshit.

I hope that he succeeds. If there was a Care Worker with holding information about a Peado there would be uproar. No-one is above the law. Bravo Mr Dawkins.

Very true. Shame there are so many blinkered people here that down voted that comment. Just shows how dangerous Religion can be on the mind. +5

At least three different occasions in the netscape forums between 05 and 07, I got to watch it live. I did not spend a whole lot of time there, but he was online 3-5 times while I was in that period. He cherry picked the stupids, but when someone smarter tried to pin him down, he would switch threads.

Odd; I've not seen those but when I have seen him he is usually polite but firm and hasn't ducked anything that's been thrown at him. I guess we see what we want to see.
