Yes it will come. There is one person here at CP, who believes in 2012 Mayan prophecy so much that he is accumulating lot of weapons. If the world does not end by natural means he will end the world just by using his firepower. In case this post is tracked by FBI, I want to let them know that it is a joke

When time is judge from a linear, subjective reality, based on the current western calendar system then, yes, 2012 is coming. If we were to adopt the Hebrew calendar, then we're long past 2012 (this year, for instance, is 5770/5771). Have you considered that it's never too late to join a cult?

I hope so, we could do with the population thinning a little.

Cult. I said cult. It sounds a bit odd when I have a cold, which could explain the interest.

believe in what? because someone forgot to finish a calendar 2000 years into the future that it predicts doom and gloom? The MAYANS didn't even believe the world would end! It's just business as usual.... I still say they lost funding and got their contract canceled. They were just like us right? ;P "an inscription commissioned in the 7th century A.D. by King Pacal of Palenque predicts that an anniversary of his accession would be commemorated on October 15, 4772."

The guy that calculated the calendars probably got tired and retired. "Well that ought to be plenty of years into the future done. Someone else can calculate more when these run out..."

I think the real amazing thing is that people are surprised when a 100 year event (flood, hurricane, earthquake, etc.) happens. After all, they're supposed to happen at a rate of 1 per 100 years on the average. Geological evidence seems to indicate that they've been happening at that rate for eons. Now that we have these here nifty interwebs, when normal things happen, too many people think it's the end of the world. It's like they engage in "worst case thinking" and feed themselves into a frenzy. The only ones who gain from all that are politicians and crooks, which are basically the same crowd. They promise to save us all from an event that has a minuscule probability.
