So, Windows 95 didn't support something that DIDN'T EXIST on release, but support was added with the next OS ? Wow.

Oh, please. Given how many things MS releases, it's hardly surprising that some of them flop. I'll can Vista as much as the next person, but how was Windows 95 a failure ?

Take windows 95 off your list and substitute windows 3.11 and I'll agree with most of what you said, though I don't think Vista was a flop anywhere near the level of Windows ME which was disastrous by comparison.

yes but the mindshare battle is where they are losing don't forget that once ibm were never going to fail ... how ridiculous a thought that was! it *can* happen if they don't stop f***ing around and start delivering things that get people excited again ... windows 7 being a very good start i hasten to add

Windows 95 wasn't as successful as it was supposed to. Hardware USB, AGP and Intel's P6 had a very little or no support in early versions of Windows 95, and all these got resolved in Windows 98.

How do you figure? That was the first and last time Windows users migrated EN MASSE to a new version of Windows. It was THE landmark revision of Windows, and brought (IMHO) a whole new era of ease-of-use to the Windows platform. No other version garnered so much interest so fast. I was one of the people that stood in line at Egghead Software until midnight to get a copy of it the day it went on sale. I would call it a definite win for Microsoft.

I disagree with the inclusion of Zune on your list. The Zune HD is a great device, the Zune software is better than iTunes on Windows (not saying much I know, but still), the Zune Pass is a *great* way to listen to and acquire music, and Zune is making its way onto XBox. It's also the inspiration for the Windows Phone 7 UI and is the media player for that OS. There's a lot of potential there and I think history will show Zune to be a success. I'm not particularly surprised to see Kin killed off since WP7 phones are just around the corner. I was surprised that they released it at all.
