With all of this complaining about global warming, I feel the need to complain about local warming[^]... Record high yesterday, here in New York City, and it's almost as hot today... It's so hot and calm that all of the pollution is sticking around long enough to poison us, instead of being whisked away to parts unknown. We hit 103 degrees yesterday, and people are being hospitalized (At least one dead so far) for heat stroke, heat exhaustion, etc... The power grid is being stressed to its limits, and when the brownouts starts to spread, and people can't run their air conditioners, there'll be even more hospitalized and dead from overheating. Funny what a difference a few degrees can make, huh? I should just blame all of this on AGW, to give fat_boy a reason to argue :)

No no no... "Sin City" is Las Vegas... New York City is either "Gotham" or the "Big Apple" (Yes, for those not in-the-know, the name "Gotham" did not start with Batman - It's an old nickname for NYC, originating in the early 1800s)

Thanks for the info; I thought that the Gotham prototype is Chicago. Where the “Big Apple” comes from?

See Uros's link for that... You might be surprised how many comic book superheroes "live" in or near New York City... Mostly the Marvel ones, because Stan Lee was born here. Spider-Man loves swinging between the skyscrapers of Manhattan, but lives in Queens The Fantastic Four lived in the Baxter Building in midtown Manhattan Charles Xavier's school for the gifted (X-Men) is in Westchester, one of the NYC suburbs (North of the Bronx) The Avengers Mansion is on the upper east side of Manhattan Tony Stark (Iron Man) was born on Long Island, another NYC suburb (East of Brooklyn/Queens) Daredevil patrolled the rooftops of Hell's Kitchen, a neighborhood of Manhattan (Midtown west) Batman's "Gotham City" was always meant to be NYC Superman's "Metropolis" usually represents NYC, but has "moved" a little over the years

So the next one should be Ian Shlasko (The Code-Man)! You need to make yourself a hero costume first. May I suggest on orange one with a big “CP” on the front? You are going to fly between the skyscrapers pursuing the big bad Fat-Man and his right hand Captain-C# trying to frustrate their hellish plans for cooling down the Earth and establishing a global government. Next time I visit the city I’ll look up to see something orange jumping between the rooftops.

Oh come on... If I was going to develop super powers, I'm SURE I could write something a little better than that :)

It's all part of the Tri-Lateral Commission's plan to exterminate undesirable contributors to the gene pool. Wait 'till you get the earthquake they have scheduled; Long Island is floating on a limestone cave, now that you've pumped all the water out of the ground. All is proceeding according to schedule, so sit back and enjoy the ride. :)
