Skydiving
-
I get daily city offers through email every day from a couple of companies (livingsocial.com and groupon.com if you're interested) - today's was for a half price, solo, static-line skydive and since it's something I've always wanted to do I thought I might as well give it a punt. Has anyone done / does anyone do this? I'm looking forward to walking up to the plane so that I can turn to the instructor and say 'I ain't getting in no damn plane, fool!'...

They charge extra to drug you and throw you in the cargo hold. You know that, right? :)

I used to do it professionally. First time is hard, second time is harder still, because you know what is coming. After that it is easy. My highest Jump was 15,000ft, and it was exhilarating!

Ex-para? This is only from 3,500ft so a 'gentle' introduction - if I like it I might try go and try proper free fall.

Fresh Blood for the local gene pool you see, I was in danger of being rounded up and forced to breed with the six-fingered midgets.

Here is how it will go... Nervous as you get on the plane. Frightened as you approach the jump point. Terrified as you leap into the void. Relieved as you see the chute open. Worried as the ground approaches. Thankful as you hit it softly. And then Desperate to get back into the plane and do it again!

We bought my MIL a tandem jump for her 50th birthday. Airfield was about an hour and a half away. The wife wanted to see her do the jump. 4 bloody times we made the journey only to sit around most of the day before they decided the weather was never going to be good enough and we drove home again. It was an unbelievably tedious place to sit and do nothing in slightly miserable weather.
Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

An old line: ask him "why should I jump out of a perfectly good working plane?" Marc
