Windows 7: DVD to DVD copy

I've used Windows 7's built-in DBD software to burn DVDs from ISOs as well as data DVDs. But recently I wanted to copy a DVD to another DVD. I have a DVD-RW drive as well as a 2nd DVD drive. But I was stunned to find that Windows 7 does not have this functionality built in. I finally used my wife's laptop that had Roxio installed to do a DVD to DVD copy. Am I missing something or is this most basic functionality just not available in Windows 7? :omg:

Assuming you have two DVD drives connected to your system, put the master disc in one drive, put the blank in the other, and use Explorer to copey the files from one disc to another. If you only have one DVD drive, your only recourse (without buying/downloading something else) is to create an ISO file from the master, remove the master/insert the black, and then burn the ISO to the blank.

This is a home made movie DVD. So I am not sure that merely copying the files over will work.

Is this a built-in feature? I looked to see if there was a way I could get an ISO from the DVD. I am talking about using built-in Windows functionality (without installing stuff like Roxio).

I use DaemonTools (Lite)[^] to create an .iso from a DVD. This should work fine for data or non-commercial video DVDs. /ravi

I know there are free tools that can do this. But I was looking for built-in functionality. And while Windows 7 can easily burn an ISO, as far as I could see it does not have a feature that lets you create an ISO from a DVD!

A nice free tool that does all that is ImgBurn. I use it all the time. Does almost everything Roxio or Nero does without all the bloat and best of all it is free. http://www.imgburn.com/[^] David

Thanks David. It's sad that Windows does not have all this built-in. It's years now since they first made DVD writers, and yet we still need 3rd party tools to do the most basic of tasks.

If MS did put that in, a whole new round of unfair competition lawsuits would get started :sigh: (not to mention the EU jumping all over it)
