Yeah, its a big thing I guess when you get into it, infinite variability. I changed the bridge pickup on my Squier for a Seymour Duncan humbucker, SL 69 I think it is, for that reason. I have also been advised of various valve combinations too. SOunds like a minefield once you get into it! :) The ampo is currently bust. I suspect a duff power tube, I have some on order. I'll just be happy to get it back working again!

It is. I've spent tens of thousands over the years, experimenting with different pedals, effects racks, amplifiers, guitars, trems, necks, pickups, leads, string gauges. All to find just the right sound.

I'm not a stalker, I just know things. Oh by the way, you're out of milk.

And did you in the end, and if you did, was it substantially better to the first amp-guitar-distortion box you had?

Talking of which, I found this site for modding the Peavey 212: http://ultimate-guitar-valveking.wikispaces.com/Amp+Mods+-+Electronics[^] Perhaps when its old, and I fancy a bit of a play... :)

It's a very funny (though now jumped the shark a bit) TV show. One of the main characters had a girlfriend whose father realised he was gay and shacked up with his old police partner. Police, army. All the same: reminded me of you 2 having a bitch-fest. :-)

Still searching. Always searching. The setup I have now is significantly better than when I first started, but there are bits of kit that I discarded over the years that I now wish I'd kept. My old Ibanez Roadster II - a great guitar, and the first one I had with coil tap. The original Tube Screamer. The series 1 Ratt Distortion. My old Tascam 4-track (I record directly to hard disk now, and miss the whole tap mixing experience). My Aria Pro 2 with Kahler Flyer trem (far more stable than the original Floyd Rose trem).

Cool. The r100 mod looks good - anything that makes a gain boost less trebly tends to be good. It should give you a fatter sound.

I remember the sound of my old Hondo LP copy and the distortion box I had, whose make I cant recall, as being better than any I have acchieved since. Whether that is rose tinted specs or not I dont know, but I often play more with fuzz than distortion to try to recapture the warmth of that sound because the Boss distortion pedal I have is way to over the top. It produces a kind of thin metallic screech rather than the roundness and dept I was used to.

That's the problem with a lot of the distortion pedals. They are so busy boosting the signal that they don't do enough to compensate for the loss of warmth. The Tube Screamer kept the warmth while still allowing me to rack up the overdrive. If you want to hear it in action, just listen to SRV - he made it sing. Hmmm. I'll have to see if I can get another TS-808; I loved that pedal.

It's a reference to Happy Days. In one episode, the Fonz leapt over a shark either on a motorbike or waterskis (I forget which), and that's the point at which people said the series had gone downhill. Hence, any series where it's gone crap all of a sudden is judged to have jumped the shark. You can normally tell when a series does this if they do something like offer a recap episode. You know that it sucks at that point.

Stevie Ray Vaughan. The best blues guitarist post Hendrix.

Yeah, there arent many here, and CG refuses to discuss guitars with me. Think he is totally pissed of with me for some reason.

It's a shame. He'd enjoy this discussion. I know I am. It's always good to chew the fat with somebody who knows a thing or two about guitars.

I liked Vai in the early days, but after about '92 he became a complete wanker and I lost any respect for him that I had.
