Yes, I dont give two hoots for my country. Why should I? Its just a geographical line on a map little different to anyother. While it has its merits its not exceptional and other countries have theirs. And in many respects its inhabitants are less meritorious than many of its neighnours. Why would you die for your country?

So that people like you can play guitar, say what you want without reprise, and to get on your soapbox and preach to the world about your precious weather reports. So that people like you don't live in places like Libya, Syria, and Iran. I would die for my country because my brothers would die for me. If you don't have pride in something greater than yourself then you have nothing.

OK, I will answer your question, even though it is not relevant to what I stated. "Their is nobility and honor when you are "defending" your country. Many countries had to defend themselves during WW2 and other conflicts/wars. My question to you would be: come up with a better way to defend your country and people without conflict and human sacrifice." Why is it noble to defend your country? Yes, many people have defended their countries, and died. To what benefit? Why defend your country? What do you hope to gain by maintaining one particular government over another? One particular langauge over another, one particular culture over another?

If England did not defend herself in WW2 for instance then they would have been run over by Nazi Germany and we all know how that would have turned out.

And I couldnt do that if I were invaded by say, the Germans?

Can I? Did you see how the Police treated the WWII POW vets who protested the arrival of the Japanese Emperor in the UK?

Which can be done from any country with an internet connection.

Now thats better. Defending against a physical threat or against a repressive ideology is another matter.

They would speak a different Germanic language to the one they do today. They would have a strong manufacturing industry. They would not have lost the Empire (in the case of WWI). The cold war might not have happened. We wouldnt have a creeping Islamification of Europe. ...

You are assuming that the attacking country is a dictatorship, why? And that they would enslave the people. The UK attacked Iraq, did it enslave the people? Oh, and using Nazi Germany is Godwins law abuse.:) Why not use the Dutch invasion of Britain circa 1720 by William of Orange and 20,000 Dutch troops. Whats your take on that. Worth dying for?

'Cos you lost? ;P Here is the way I see it: In the UK we were pre Celts. Then the Celts invaded, we were happy to call ourselves Celtic. Then the Romans came and gave us Latin and education, trade, and opportunity. We were happy to call ourselves Romano Celts. And spoke Welsh. Then the Saxons arrived. And we were happy to ally ourselves with Arthur, the heroic Celt who battled the Saxons. He lost. And we learnt Saxon. Then the Danes arrived, and we were happy to call ourselves Saxons and suport the heroic Saxon King Alfred. He got a draw. And we blended Old Norse into our language. And we were happy to think of ourselves under Canut, the Danish king of the Danish-Anglo territory. Then the Normans arrived, damn French! And we pittied Harold, who having just sbeaten off even more Danes two weeks earlier, got an aroow in the eye. And we added Frenmch to the morass of our language. And we got modern English, and we were happy. Then we got fed up with Catholics, killed our king, put another one back, got fed up and put a Dutch man on the throne, who invaded England and fought his way to London. Some were happy, the Proitestants, the Catholics were mightly pissed off. (Then he invaded Ireland and cause a whole hell of a lot of problems.) Where have we been worse off for being invaded? What woud have been the point of dying to stop it? At every change we have alligned ourselves with the new power. If you are English, why dont you still hate the Saxons and their filthy Germanic language and love the Brythoinc Celtic, as do the Welsh, today? :) So you see if the Germans took the UK in 1920 so what? Would I care today?

Never fear, though - I shall reproduce it here: "another ignorant peasant child with dung on your booties. You reveal your ignorance with every word you tyupe." I don't even need to comment on it. You've insulted yourself far worse than I ever could.

Bullshit NI was an active service role, which is why we got issued the green card (Permission to kill) and received the active service pay enhancement. I lost a friend out there on that 'Policing' role as you call it. You are a arse if you think it was anything other than being under attack in a hostile environment. Unless you wore the green and walked street, you know nothing and should say nothing.

And the narrow view is appropriate. Those are not soldiers you are describing. Those are barbarians with little or no human emotion or morality. :)

No, actually it comes principly from a guy I know who, a Polish Count, who fought the Germans of course, and described the kind of barbarity committed by German troops in eastern Europe. They took a boarding school in Poland, and hung all the children, out of the windows. Now, tell me soldiers are noble. The Russians were no better when they took Germany.

Which only goes to show that you do not in fact understand what my previous statement was referring to.

Perhaps because I do in fact have some knowledge of the topics that I mentioned?
