There was a recent review (3months ago) on the Gadget Show about home surround systems. The outcome was; 1st Place: 4 out of 5; £260; Sony BDV-E370 2nd Place: 3 out of 5; £4500; Bose V35 3rd Place: 2 out of 5; £619; Teufel Impaq 3000 So as you can see above, cheap can be the best option! Link to the review segment from the TV show; http://fwd.channel5.com/gadget-show/videos/jon-test/all-in-one-home-cinema[^]

Hmmm, thanks. In my case I am specifically looking for a 2.1 system though. Bose seems to be the only company with decent 2.1 systems but their 2.1 products cost more than other companies' 5.1 systems. :~

I know this is not what you are looking for, but i was demonstrating the review difference between a 260quid Sony and a 4500quid bose. That alone is enough to make me question the merits of the Bose brand.

Have you seen the prices they will pay for a mains lead? :wtf: I just want a list of names and addresses - I have a bridge they may be interested in! On a serious note: if you are thinking of spending serious dosh on speakers, get the shop (or whatever) to do you a home demo: the shape and furnishings in the room have a big effect on acoustics, and this varies from speaker to speaker. You need to listen to then as they will be in your home.

Yeah but surveys and comparisons will always work against Bose because get very low ratings for value-for-money. Kinda similar to how Toyotas and Hondas rate over BMWs and Audis in consumer ratings.

I was looking at some 2.1 home speaker systems and have finally settled on a Bose CineMate Series II (599.99 @ Amazon). Compare this to the Sony 5.1 system which is 1000W for only about 249.99. So what makes the Bose so expensive? Remember these are not even comparables, the equivalent 5.1 Bose speaker systems starts at 2,200+. People who have Bose systems, do you regret spending extra for them? Or would you buy them again?

I happen to have a small Bose 2.1 system. It works fine, nothing spectacular. Its main drawback is it uses a separate remote control that isn't compatible with anything else, I'm still looking for a "universal RC" that could cope with it. :)

The set I am considering has a custom 4 button remote too. Although Bose has a more functional remote that I can upgrade to in future should I choose to.

Well I was considering to buy it from Amazon, so the home demo may not work out. There is a Bose showroom in my town but I am not sure they do home demos, and even if they did that I bet they'd be pissed off if I tell them that I will eventually buy it off Amazon.

It came with a package deal; the tele (not a Bose) was the deciding factor, not the audio. :)

INR 14K is about $310. I don't know of any current Bose Home Theatre system in that price range so he probably got PC speakers too. And yeah Bose will never have value for money.

Well I was considering to buy it from Amazon, so the home demo may not work out. There is a Bose showroom in my town but I am not sure they do home demos, and even if they did that I bet they'd be pissed off if I tell them that I will eventually buy it off Amazon.

                                  Regards, Nish

Thats why you say you are really interested in the product, and just want to make sure before parting with the cash. And then at the end of the demo, just say your not quite sure, something doesn't sound quite right and leave it at that! (you never know they might say to try it for a couple of days yourself, and then after that say no, still not convinced its worth the price, and they might even knock some money off and make you and offer. Just don't tell them anything else!

INR 14K is about $310. I don't know of any current Bose Home Theatre system in that price range so he probably got PC speakers too. And yeah Bose will never have value for money.

The unit is THX certified, and I'm using it in my hall (where I used to keep a 5.1 earlier), and I actually get deeper bass and better mid notes with the current system! Surely enough, it may not compete with a bose home theater unit though. And yes, the friend's speakers are PC speakers too. But honestly, I think that the people who are complaining about the build quality of the "interior" of Bose are mistaken. I think I wouldn't care if it was made of rubberbands and superglue. I'd worry about the sound quality, and the reliability of the product, both which I think bose scores well on. If you don't mind spending the extra money, and if you have enough space in the hall for setting up a powerful system, I'd recommend that you go for the bose unit.

Yeah, that's what I wish I could do. Just that my personality sucks when it comes to that sort of thing. Which also explains why I hate any form of price negotiation - it's just something that makes me feel very awkward :sigh:

Yeah the price on this is okay, it's something I've budgeted for. I just want to make sure it's worth it. 600 bucks is not a small amount of money (for me). Eventually I will also get a 5.1 system (for a TV in a different room) but this particular room needs a 2.1 because of the way we've furnished it and how the TV has been placed. And in the past I've always found that the price worries you only until you pay for the thing. Once you get it, you forget what you paid. And once the thing you buy satisifes you, the price is long forgotten. So I've learned to never sacrifice quality just to save a few bucks here or there. I'd rather not buy something than buy something and then not be happy about it.

Unless, you are every much into music and sound I do not recommend going for Bose. They are not the best value for money if you are not a big music fan. But obviously there are other things like bragging rights which come with Bose :). Reminds me of this article:- Office dude wonders who’s the one left out who hasn’t seen his iPhone[^]
