Binging is like googling, it just feels dirtier. Please take your VB.NET out of our nice case sensitive forum. Astonish us. Be exceptional. (Pete O'Hanlon)

I saw an article on this early this morning and I have to admit that it makes me uneasy. I don't approve of file sharing but for reasons that I have not fully reconciled yet I feel that this is not the right way to go about stopping it. This is partly due to the willingness of our governments and judicial system to bow to those with enough dosh to hire high powered legal teams.

File sharing has legitimate uses but I'm sure the vast majority of users of such sites are after illegal content. It makes me uneasy too, but something has to be done to protect the producers of music/video/games/software etc. At present the system in the UK seems to rely on people's honesty,or ignorance of how to obtain such things illegaly themselves. Once they figure it out, or have a source that will supply them (often friends that will do it free!) they mostly don't believe that they are doing anything wrong! A guy at work is always offering me the latest movies etc - he's a real film fan, but just doesn't get that he's not supporting the industry he loves the product of and is in effect stealing from them. He actually seems quite offended when I politely decline

The real problem is when the files you share are CP.

I am always astounded when people offer me pirated content. I won't accept it, under any circumstance, and it's rare I don't respond with a lecture.

And how long before they are up and running with a different domain name? Days? Hours? Or they started that ball rolling when the lawsuit was filed? And what are BT doing to 'block' this? Shutting them out of DNS? Or something more substantial?

The movie industries waste their time pursuing things like this instead of adjusting their system. I know people who pay for services like Netflix, but still pirate when they can't get it there or at a Redbox. They could cut down on pirating by realizing many people don't want to buy a movie anymore, they want to watch it once and be done with it, preferably without having to leave their house. Instead they're adamant about not changing, and not helping people obtain it legally and are willing to pay for it in the format they want it in.

They may have been ordered to block it, but they haven't as of 08:56 this morning. My ISP is BT, but it depends how they're blocking/going to block it because I don't use their DNS servers.
