Tell me more about your grandmother.

Technically speaking the dictionary would define Visual Basic users as programmers.
But here again, a very generalized, liberal definition is being employed and it's wrong

This has my vote of being the most typical Eliza like response to my post. Christian No offense, but I don't really want to encourage the creation of another VB developer. - Larry Antram 22 Oct 2002 C# will attract all comers, where VB is for IT Journalists and managers - Michael P Butler 05-12-2002 Again, you can screw up a C/C++ program just as easily as a VB program. OK, maybe not as easily, but it's certainly doable. - Jamie Nordmeyer - 15-Nov-2002

I considered spending a day answering as many posts as I can in the manner of the old 'Eliza' program to see how long it took for people to cotton on that this is what I was trying to do, but I decided it would be annoying. But it seemed such a cool idea that I thought I'd settle for telling you all :-) Christian No offense, but I don't really want to encourage the creation of another VB developer. - Larry Antram 22 Oct 2002 C# will attract all comers, where VB is for IT Journalists and managers - Michael P Butler 05-12-2002 Again, you can screw up a C/C++ program just as easily as a VB program. You: you put uncertainty into my mind! Eliza: Why do you say your mind? You: I hope it's my mind Eliza: Why do you say your mind? You: it isn't? Eliza: Please go on. You: so who's mind is this? You: I better stop, this post is getting too big Eliza: Can you elaborate on that? Ok, so I was a little bored :) Twice I got glitches where I saw other people's comments instead of my own. I like the reply I got the first time I said "I think it's of interest to Chris Maunder" and got back: You: take your clothes off and describe yourself Eliza: What about your own clothes off and describe myself? :omg: James "The elastic retreat rings the close of play as the last wave uncovers the newfangled way. This is a bogus version. I put it in an infinite loop by answering "Yes". Now I have to dig up my old source code from 1980... :) I rewrote Eliza (following Weizenbaum's Lisp patterns in a '78 isssue of the CACM) in C. It was quite a hoot and allowed you to save your conversations and also run in auto-answer mode. Great fun to watch Eliza talk to herself! /ravi Let's put "civil" back in "civilization" http://www.ravib.com ravib@ravib.com
