Best help authoring tool for shareware
-
Just wondering from any shareware authors out there what the best help authoring tool is? In a shareware authors price range. I can't afford to use RoboHTML or the likes, I would have to sell a million copies just to break even :) Or does anyone know how to get more help or a detailed description of how to use the HTML help workshop that comes with VS.NET? Everytime I do a search on it, it comes up as COM Object MFC, or .NET Framework stuff (I hate the search feature in VS.NET). Thanks for any tips or advice! I use my CMS (http://www.ltpb.8m.com/XMLHTML[^]), to manage my HTML files, most of the formating is done by templates anyway. And then I just compile it through the HTML Help program. This way I can store ALL the unique contents in an XML file. Also it doesn't cost ANYthing. -Steven

If you are using or have access to Visual Studio 6, it has an application called Help Workshop. The help files we made at work with this turned out pretty good. Brad Jennings My latest nickname: Kidney Stone (Nickname courtesy of my roommates)

I use Html Help with VC6.0. Microsoft's official book on the subject is very detailed an easy to follow. It's out of print but can be had used for $29 from Amazon.

I feel your pain. RoboHelp is simply fantastic. The real shame is that soon after I was laid off from my last company, so was the writer (I think you see the trend), so the copy of RoboHelp I insisted they buy just two months before is sitting on this guys desk. Aaaggghh.
