I used to use Andy Snap[^] but it hasn't been updated in five and a half years. I've been loomking at Screen Hunter[^] but I have 3 versions to choose from. I'm not averse to paying for a utility if it does what need. In this case I want to be able to change the size and position of a selected area before it is saved to a file. In the case of the Windows Snipping Tool it saves to a file as soon as you stop dragging out the are of screen you have selected. The other good thing Andy Snap did was preselect the exact same area as last time when it was invoked, so if you were snapping through a dialog based process the correct area was already seleced. Anyone have a utility that they use and would recommend to me?

Decent capture software, click a button to invoke, select area, resize if needed, hit enter to save to predfined folder, format and naming convention.

I have a free screen capture program for Windows that seems to fit your need well. It remembers the area set by the user and sets it to the same location and size when it is launched again. It has a mode to automatically capture the current active window and save the images to a folder specified by the user. It allows the user to adjust the size and location of the area to be captured with the mouse, or by typing in the coordinates. It has the option of capturing the mouse cursor image and include it in the final image. The images can be captured to the clipboard, files, or (for a quick print out) directly to a printer.
