Brewmaster sounds good, and I'm eminently qualified for the position. Unfortunately, Canada will not allow me to visit - ever - because 20 years ago I got a DUI ticket. Nothing before, nothing since, but I'm banned for life from ever again visiting the land of my ancestors. Screw 'em; who needs a bunch of queer tree murderers and baby seal beaters?

Wait, what? You get banned from visiting for a minor infraction like that? That seems unreasonable.

Through CalGary and  And not to miss the implicit Nuke scientist in between. So we are friends through 3 ways

It's going well so far, Mustafa. Thanks for asking. I hope you are doing well - it's been awhile since we heard an update from you. I passed all the needed courses last year with an A average, passed the 3 written qualifying exams in January, presented my research proposal and passed the oral qualifying exam earlier this month. I need one more signature from the Dean of the Graduate School and I will officially be a Doctoral Candidate. That should happen within the next day or two - it's a formality. Last year was a killer, but all I need to do now is finish my research, write my dissertation and defend it at the end. I'm aiming to finish by December, but it may run over into 2013.

All the best with that Walt, I'm hoping to be able to get my PhD one day. Maybe now I can part time.

Welcome home, lad! Pining for the woods, are ya? Well now, if you need some wildflowers to get pressing, or ladies' clothing, let us know. We'll take up a collection of fancy items from Fredericks or pick a bunch of posies from the garden for you. "I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay, I sleep all night and I work all day..." [sing along]

Man, I never realized how much I missed this place until I arrived. I also realized the "eh" was phased out of my speech pattern! The horror!

Really? I never realized it was that harsh. Granted driving laws are tough here, and I approve of that, but I didn't realize it ran to banishment.

I thought the US produces more lumber than Canada by far, but I could be wrong. Seal bashing is not something approved of :) I can check whether the sentries are still looking for a Roger Wright at the gates, if they're not, you can come and see where your ancestors shot all the buffalo :D

The bear has landed! I'm in Calgary :) Yes, I've been whining and pining to go back to Alberta and now I've done it. I will accept your congratulations and accolades in the Tangerine room, thank you. Also, if you've got the lead on a job in the area, help a brother out!

Roger, Roger, Roger... I thought we had this talk years ago? Despite what the official paperwork reads your Canadian ban has nothing to do with the DUI and everything to do with that long weekend you spent with Margaret Trudeau at the Flamingo Club.
