Visual Studio Express 2012 for Windows Desktop

Indeed. Awesome. As much as I like Metro apps, and as much fun as I'm having developing them, the need for desktop apps is still there and I want the ability to do them. Based on the VS2010 prices, I can't afford to go with a paid option at this time, so this is great news.

Makes perfect sense capturing the open source and enthusiasts market :) Now if they would only make Windows free for non-business applications, that would erm be a cold day in hell.

This is just the affirmation that MS needs to show that they are not giving up on desktop apps. Thanks for the info!

Yes, but who would want to actually use it? (I find the Visual Studio 2012 RC so hideous, I only use it to follow up on the bugs I've filed.)

I wouldn't recommend kissing the other end, either. Just give it a smile and let it go at that...

Just because someone gives you a gift horse, doesn't mean you can't shoot and turn it into glue. Or something like that.

I think it's "don't look a gift horse in the mouth". :-D /ravi

TFS Express was already going to be free. Main news here is Express for Desktop.

True. I believe TFS Express is artificially restricted from accepting VS2010 clients :( so adding desktop support to VS2011 makes it available to devs who want to build desktop apps and TFS. Hence my comment. /ravi

Perhaps, but by "Desktop" do they mean the real desktop we all know and love or is it the dreaded Metro Desktop of Sesame Street flat colours and tiled blocks for kiddies with no brains (i.e. Marketing people) to play with?
