Sounds like a case of Smalldickitis. Feeling the need to be seen as a big man. Seriously, what if the person getting pissed is a passenger or is getting a cab home. How is this a danger to the public? Is it true that US police give sobriety tests by getting people to count, say the alphabet and touch their nose? I'd just say ' fuck off cunt, and get the breataliser out'. Isn't the US the most technologically advanced country in the world and they still test for alcohol like it's 1620 or something. Is that in the constitution? I heard that on the radio the other morning. I don't think the private property rule applies to this, because you are in a public establishment. Anyone is free to come in as they please. At least that was the arguement on the talk show. [and apparently in the article too now that I read it :)] Their whole theory that it prevents accidents is really flawed though. Just because I'm trashed at a pub, does not mean I'll be driving at all. A designated driver would, or a taxi can be called, or even a friend could pick me up. Jeez, that's stupid. The only time an officer should be able to do that is if the drunk person is causing trouble. Luckily, the police in my town are pretty lenient, I've been caught drinking beer while walking down the sidewalk and all they did was make me pour it out (God, I had to waste good Budweiser!:)). I really like that they are trying to cut down on alcohol related accidents but punishing people for having some harmless fun isn't right. Brad Jennings

You mean you did not use a brown paper bag No, I regret to say that I did not use a paper bag. We were walking between parties and one of my friends spotted the cops and told me to hide the beer. I tried (yeah right, I couldn't even feel my legs) but we got busted anyway. I don't think they would have even bothered us if I hadn't raised suspicion by trying to hide it.

It was used recently to indicted a bar tender because one of his customers had a car accident after going out of the bar totally drunk, killing 2. The case is not made, but I would be surprised if he's finally convicted.

On many beaches you are not allowed to drink alcohol either, though they only enforce that when the beach is packed. Don't want drunk SOBs causing fights.

Actually, that more from TV and movies. The more common test these days is to ask you to follow a finger or the like without moving your head. If intoxicated, the eyes can't track smoothly, but follow in a "jerky" fashion. Much more reliable than the ones you mentioned. Michael Martin wrote: get the breataliser out'.
