What's really cool about this[^] is that the police could use it to prevent anyone from using their phones to video their enforcement activities!!!! Wahoo!!! The future beckons.

I dunno, my Droid has an "airplane mode", wouldn't that keep a phone from receiving the signal to sleep or whatever? At least then I can still use the camera and such. Oh, and I can use a regular camera too.

I'm sure Obama and friends will get around to it eventually...

Unless the phone is leased, disabling anything on it remotely breaches the contract made during the purchase.

The real issue is being able to remotely turn on someone's camera. That is worse than disabling it. Big Brother is always watching. :) Then again, you could just not buy a government tracking device and then won't have to deal with this.

Sure they can. So can anyone else. That doesn't make it legal or give them the right not to be sued for breach of contract.

Easy trigger. I agree with you.
