I honestly appreciate the sentiment, but... I no longer vote on stuff, answer questions, nor post articles. I haven't even run Reputationator since December. I also don't post messages because I think people will like it. I post what I want, and with over 9 "million" users, what I post is bound to offend someone's sensitivities (mostly foreigners). If the thought zombies here want to vote, they should, by all means, take their hands off their dicks long enough to click their mouse - whatever blows up their skirt. I'm not a supporter of the touchy-feely new world order, and I refuse to let my individuality, freedom of thought, or natural rights be absorbed and diffused by the collective. In short, screw 'em. :)

SOome cops do carry guns, and in fact being a relatively gun free society, with the exception of hunting weapons, is working out well since our gun murder rate is very low.

It most certainly does make my point. Gun control laws only disarm the law-abiding. Criminals, by their very nature, don't obey the law, so making laws concerning gun control are pointless.

I know you did, but when someone behaves like an arsehole he deserves to be told so and I personally have no issue with using profanity to emphasise the point. At least JSOP admits he was being a prat and does not try and weasel his way out of it. Besides I think the whole PC thing is counter productive, I'm of the opinion that a little pain is an excellent teacher, sarcasm and vitriol are about the only way to deliver that here.

They don't get any training in NY because it's also a gun-free zone - [SARCASM]so they never have to shoot at anyone[/SARCASM]. You know what's REALLY absurd? Civilians that carry are held to a higher standard than the cops where collateral damage is concerned. The cops in that incident will probably receive "training", but a civilian in the same situation would receive physical brutality from the cops (and if they were shooting at him, several incident bystanders would be wounded) when they "take him down", assault charges, and jail time.

Gun violence isn't caused by guns (or the presence of guns). It's caused by social issues. 80 million Americans own guns, and each one has an average four guns each. I have three, and my wife has three, so I guess you'd say I'm not the "typical" American portrayed by those numbers.

It means they can't make a gun-related mistake and kill or seriously injure someone because they felt under pressure and made a poor decision. If they need to call in armed backup, they can do so. Having a gun at your hip doesn't stop you being shot anyway. And it's working out very well, thank you. Gun crime is rare here, unlike your armed-to-the-teeth paradise where there have been several high profile shooting sprees this year alone.

Well, back then, everyone had a rifle and learned how to use it (if not for defense, then for survival). Concealment, stalking, evasion, and adaptability - skills equally necessary to hunt game for food.
