Got two posts removed (don't know why or by who). They expressed views/opinions/how others did it, opinions about article quality etc. And even if they were nonsensical or plain dumb, there's always the vote down system (which, BTW, looks somewhat passion-driven, but I might be wrong here). So what's happening? Were my posts spam/abusive for real? Spam I think not since they were opinions, but abusive? Consider an article about sample X and I will post "I don't like this, you should do it better using Y". Is this either spam or abusive? 1. Spam: either post the same message multiple times, advertising etc. Does "use C instead of C# because you use only Win32 calls" does qualify as spam? 2. Abusive: same question. Who was abused and how? If I have said "you're an idiot because you use X" I would accept that as abusive, but "why not using Y because you do it anyway and X is just wrapper" is abuse?

While it does look like one of the authors is removing any kind of <5 comments if your example 1 is any kind of idea on your other comments then: 1. The code people post for the articles is not something you should be able to use out of the box. It's a simple example, it's your problem to adapt it for your needs. 2. People code in whatever they're more comfortable with. And since the code is not written with a specific spec in mind, why is the language of any importance to the quality of the article.

I recently got downvoted for suggesting an alternative implementation for an article (that would give 90% of the use cases with less effort). Well, *shrug*. I see you are an old-time member, so I can assume you are familiar with the particular randomness of CodePreject voting. I doubt searchign for a definition of those terms will help a lot.

As I said, the voting I can understand. Automatically removal is a mystery to me.

Out of interest, what was your vote? It seems that another member had their message removed as well. Maybe a voting cartel?

One was a 4, the other a 3 I think. I can't recall now the exact words, but in one of the removed posts I said something "why don't use C since the C# sample is a wrapper over a bunch of Win32 calls" (they were BitBlt, DrawXXX and alike).

True. That's why I wrote previously that I can understand if I was dumb, downvote me, reply me calling me names, whatever. I was wondering why the post was *removed* instead of the usual community bashing if someone thought I am wrong, out of context etc. Labeling a different opinion - correct or not, like it or not - as spam and/or abusive is an abuse in itself. Otherwise, what's the point to post a message or comment? Big brother have to like it, or else? Because if that's so, this is no good.

The removal works good enough to remove offensive content. Contrary to popular advise, if you leave it up enough people will reply to drag it out and discuss it ad infinitum. Automating that removal is a compromise because of the resources involved. I'm sure if this gets abused to much, Chris will move forward. You may want to post in the site bugs and suggestions forum to gather ideas how to prevent further abuse.

Nearly all of the "5" voters have accounts less than 4 months old. This smells. Report it in the Site Bugs and Suggestions[^] Forum.

Just posted a reply to the guy which removed my initial message. He replied that if I have posted an article (which I did, he didn't bothered to check) I should have known that I must have a very good reason to downvote. Which I did not (I voted 4 or 3, I think). My reply was something like "ok, if you think I was abusive, so be it, it's your article". Guess what? The new post have been removed. What should I do now, hunt the next articles and vote 1 just for the sake of trolling? (Obviously I'm not gonna do that). My mistake - he deleted another messages. Anyway, it's not much of a difference. I think I'm gonna stop here - seems there is no value in continuing to try to understand this one. Thanks for commenting !

I'd report the article writer as abusive.

I believe he's a sockpuppeteer. I'm reporting him and the accounts I've found.

I suggest you look at the "Span & Abuse Watch" forum. It looks like a (now ex) member has been putting up articles, registering sockpuppet accounts and voting themselves up. Any criticism and he blitzed the voter from the multiple accounts. He even gained MVP status and won an article competition this way. The report as abuse/spam stuff works pretty well for spammers and trolls, but what happened here is a classic case of the law of unintended consequences. I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner.
