    And there we have it. The highways agency has 60 gritters for the UK. Roughtly one gritter per million people. PATHETIC .............. No wonder the country grinds to a halt when we have two inches of snow. And all those people who laughed at my RAV4 and said that it wasnt a real 4x4 got the smile wiped off their faces wen I went to the supermarket and they were snowed in and couldnt get out. :):):):)

          Oh come on! If the UK went out and bought several hundered gritters and snow removal machines you'd be bleating about what a waste of taxpayers money it was, given the infrequency with which snow visits much of the country.

            Methinks thou shoudest see a real 4 wheeler :). Of course they probably would not sell very well in Europe because of gas mileage but my heighboor has a rig with positive traction on demand 4 wheel drive that determines if power is applied to the wheel or not - he can have 1-2-3-4 wheels powered at any time. This is not the limited slip traction thing of older years but something fairly new. His rig also has 4 wheel steering at low speeds. And this is in Texas where they close he State if it snows. But we do have some rough territory to traverse once one gets off-road. Cost - about 40,000.00 . To much for my blood for a truck. The RAV 4 has actually proved to be a big surprise, doing very well in sand especially. Obviously it is not going to beat a Land Rover (best 4x4xFar) but then it was not ever meant to be that. However technically I would suggest that the Hummer is the best and The H2 a close second. Traction control is completly different - and a lot simplier. This system determines the most efficient way to drive the vehicle based on weight, angle of turn, and about 15 or so other inputs . Its all computer controlled.For example it may quit driving the outsider rear wheel in a sharp turn - stuff like that. It can even shift the tranny . The system cuts off when speeds hit 25 MPH.
