I can't believe there still kicking. Their products were the best at one point--it would be really a great thing if they became a "contender" again, but alas, I fear it shall not come to pass. :-D Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.

      >Last year they even came close to acquisition by Microsoft. Guess you don't remember this: http://news.com.com/2100-1023-279561.html?legacy=cnet And of those 34, Anders Hejlsberg lead the C# team and Paul Gross is doing something important (tm). Its hard to fight a company with bottomless pockets, especially if they take all of your talent.

I remember Microsoft C_6_...I wasn't daft enough to use it. At that point in time, Turbo Pascal and Zortech C++ (remember them?) kicked it well across the playground. You've got to give Microsoft credit for one thing. When they have a vision, they really pursue it. Most companies haven't got anything like their "staying power" in that regard. Looks like that's what they're doing with C#, too. :-D (Had they released it with generics/templates from the get-go, then maybe I wouldn't have that opinion.) They've actually had quite a few profitable quarters over the past 2 years. So they are not as bad off as they once were. Whether they can really make a C# IDE good enough to woo people away from VS.Net remains to be seen. Sean Winstead

Bloody hell! I see what you mean: Yocam maintains that Microsoft is luring personnel away with huge signing bonuses, some in excess of $1 million. "They have the audacity to send limos to Borland's headquarters to take Borland employees out to lunch. I mean, this has got to stop." If true, that's unbelievable. I'd love to see the people responsible for that sort of stunt justify themselves to the Community here, I really would. :suss: Mind you, reading the rest of the article, Microsoft isn't the only company operating this way by any means. :~ Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk

I'm sorry, but I really don't see anything wrong with hiring people away from a competitor. Employees are people with free will that can make their own decisions about where to work. They are not the property of their employer. Anders in particular has had the opportunity to do something he may not have ever been able to do at Borland, develop his own language from scratch. -- Where are we going? And why am I in this handbasket?

I can't believe there still kicking. Their products were the best at one point--it would be really a great thing if they became a "contender" again, but alas, I fear it shall not come to pass. :-D Marc Help! Turbo C++ and Turbo Assembler kicked ass! Microsoft had nothing on them on DOS. :) -- Ignorant people upsets me.

Coming close to acquisition isn't even close. It was just a rumour

Microsoft is luring personnel away with huge signing bonuses, some in excess of $1 million. Hey! Somebody screwed up! I haven't had a limo drive up to MY house to take me out to lunch and lure me away with a $1M signing bonus! Hey Bill!!! You forget about MEEEEE!!!! Marc Help! Their products *ARE STILL* by far the best - Delphi kicks butt, neither VC++ nor VB even come CLOSE..... Can't wait to see and use their .NET IDE - VS.NET sucks big time...... And Borland is very healthy, very profitable - good things will be coming from Scotts Valley! Marc (the Swiss one) :-)

According to finance.yahoo.com, at last count, 1158 - mind you, that's not counting the newly acquired folks from BoldSoft, TogetherSoft, and Starbase Corp. Borland is doing very well, has been profitable for the past several quarters, has lots of cash in the bank - it's a very healthy, and very capable company. I for one am looking forward to Delphi for .NET and the Borland IDE for .NET - BIG TIME! Marc (the Swiss one)
