I can't believe there still kicking. Their products were the best at one point--it would be really a great thing if they became a "contender" again, but alas, I fear it shall not come to pass. :-D Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.

After Visual C++ 1.0 came out I thought MS were much better than Borland. Before that (remember Microsoft C7?) was when Borland excelled IMO. Dave.

I remember Microsoft C_6_...I wasn't daft enough to use it. At that point in time, Turbo Pascal and Zortech C++ (remember them?) kicked it well across the playground. You've got to give Microsoft credit for one thing. When they have a vision, they really pursue it. Most companies haven't got anything like their "staying power" in that regard. Its hard to fight a company with bottomless pockets, especially if they take all of your talent.

Looks like that's what they're doing with C#, too. :-D (Had they released it with generics/templates from the get-go, then maybe I wouldn't have that opinion.) They've actually had quite a few profitable quarters over the past 2 years. So they are not as bad off as they once were. Whether they can really make a C# IDE good enough to woo people away from VS.Net remains to be seen. Sean Winstead

Bloody hell! I see what you mean: Yocam maintains that Microsoft is luring personnel away with huge signing bonuses, some in excess of $1 million. "They have the audacity to send limos to Borland's headquarters to take Borland employees out to lunch. I mean, this has got to stop." If true, that's unbelievable. I'd love to see the people responsible for that sort of stunt justify themselves to the Community here, I really would. :suss: Mind you, reading the rest of the article, Microsoft isn't the only company operating this way by any means. :~ Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk

                                  >Mind you, reading the rest of the article, Microsoft isn't the only company operating this way by any means.\ Yea, the thing is that they have sooooo much money. I like capitalism, but capitalism without competition is a bad thing.

I'm sorry, but I really don't see anything wrong with hiring people away from a competitor. Employees are people with free will that can make their own decisions about where to work. They are not the property of their employer. Anders in particular has had the opportunity to do something he may not have ever been able to do at Borland, develop his own language from scratch. -- Where are we going? And why am I in this handbasket?
