never thought this happens with a company. are there any instances where a company continued paying a person despite them leaving the organization? (i hear such stories in govt agencies).

Whahaha :D As if inefficiency would be the sole area of government; only in the distorted world of economics government is inefficient and companies always the top of efficiency. As soon as people are badly supervised and/or anonymous in your organization, they'll start to slack. They do not check whether they are paid by the government or a corporation before starting the slacking. Less propaganda, more actual thinking, learning and education, please.
