How to set about creating a Joomla extension.

I have asked the programming question here, here[^], but would just like some pointers on where to very quickly learn how to create a very basic version of the Joomla extension Coupon Manager[^]. I only need to demo a few basic setup screens on Monday. My only prior LAMP CMS experience has been WordPress modules. But where in blazes do I even start? The Joomla docs only cover very basic creation of the extension itself, not how to use Joomla facilities in it etc. At least not as far as I have looked.
