A little late to the party, I installed VS2013 today. Now it wants me to login. !?!? huh !??!!? My instinct says no no no. However, I am curious. What do I get for hooking it to my MSDN account? What do I get for creating a "Visual Studio Online Account" ? I think I should I run from that. I use VS but I don't want to be assimilated into a VS Borg. But I want to see what it is... I feel like a mousetrap is going to snap if I take a nibble.

It's not required. In fact, I often find I'm logged out in subsequent instances. I think if you want to auto-sync your settings amongst installations then a login is required.

Here is what you do. Lie down on your back, grab the cheese and hold the steel in your hands as you do some bench presses

If it's the trial version, you can extend it by a few months. Other than that, I think it periodically uploads your code to Microsoft so they can have a laugh. All this cloud nonsense is getting very annoying.

          Regards, Rob Philpott.

It's not a bad idea to create an account. You'll get a Visual Studio online account (eg, https://jeremyfalcon.visualstudio.com) and online TFS hosting for projects. Not that I'd never use it for personal projects, but it's nice to know if I get tired of Google Code or whatever, I always have access to another offsite code repo for code. Edit: Keep in mind I'm only talking about the free parts.
