No Republican isn't bad. There really aren't too different from Democrats, all being politicians playing the same game... Bush is republican. Stan Shannon wrote: I don't know if I believe that or not, but it does stand to reason that regardless of the measure of a disaster there are only so many things which can be reported on any given day. Indeed, very true. But I would wager my left nut that if the same air crash happened in America that every news agency would break the bank getting to it and reporting on it all day every day for at least 2 weeks. And the thing is, all our news channels would be plastered with it as well because we get our stuff mainly from America (Retuers, Associated Press etc.) Not saying it is Americas fault. Hell no, it is the rest of the worlds fault. We depend far too much on America. This whole Iraq issue has brought up that dependency in my eyes. Made us aware that we might as well be states in the United States of Earth, with GWB as our Overlord.

Not everyone wants democracy. This is a fatal mistake that us westerners often make. We think our way is the best and that it is inconcievable that others would object to our way of life. Of course Afghanis want to be liberated! Look how much better off they are now. Go liberation! brianwelsch wrote: I go back and forth on that one. But I usually agree, because news channels are businesses and require ratings to increase revenue. However, showing the news people want to see, isn't the only way to increase ratings. They simply have to attract viewers with shiney news anchors, cool sound bites and graphics, and "digging up the juicy gossip". you know, make it fun, not informative. Unfortunately in most cases your scenario fits. :( But we in Germany have one news-'show' that doesn't use optical means to catch viewers. It's broadcasted every day at 8pm, lasts only 15 minutes and has one of the highest ratings of the day. And that's an exception. All the other new shows bank on the stuff you mentioned. That's bad, because it's more show than news. brianwelsch wrote: It'd be refreshing though to see a channel who brought a nice balance of tragedy and triumph, and paid no attention to what nation it was, andreported political goings on with little bias. That'd be really nice, but in the nearer future there'll ever be differences between what nation the news belongs to.

Me, middle class white collar worker wandering through District Six because he wants photos... shudder the thought! 302 elite troops dead[^] in crash. Now I know this topic has been beaten to death but: I only happened to hear about this tragedy by visiting Google news. It is like a sub-sub-sub-sub link on CNN.com. BBC, second item so go BBC. But come on peeps. Just for one second think how farked into a frenzied cocked hat the media would be if that Iranian plane was American and had US troops in it. I would have woken up with "Air Disaster" taped to my forehead and the CNN anchor in my bedroom. In general I would say things are disproportinatley FUBAR in our world.

I do not live in America or Iran, Brit. My point is that if the accident had been American then I, living in South Africa, would have heard about it all day everyday for two weeks solid with a CNN anchor in my bedroom almost. But because it was Iranian, it got mild coverage and quickly sank. That is FUBAR. The FUBAR bit is that we rely on the American news agencies (and American driven news agencies like Reuters) too much. They obviously report on American topics, and they should, they are American, let them. But then we, Other Countries, should have our own network so that we can get the news relevant to us. We are pathetic for not having it and are suffering under our American-bias.

Seriously I think any news agency must think about how much they can milk a story for. American advertisers generally target americans with money. So most of the bandwidth in the world goes to what will be interesting to that group. Imagine a story "Identical Twin child stuck down a hole". The shots of the above ground twin would be worth a fortune, and quite inexpensive to procure compared to covering an Iranian air disaster. It might seem sad it might seem callous but that's life. Sept 11 had spectacular coverage because of its location and simbolism. But who cared when Tikiopia dissapeared ? Regardz Colin J Davies

Wait, there is one thing they don't like: having to learn a foreign language. But even that goes to show the sacrifices many people are willing to make to live in a free society. I haven't heard of many people seeking a better life in North Korea. Regards, Alvaro

Many "get by" in American society because their countries are worse off. Their ideal is not the American way. You were talking ideals with your "one world government" post.
