It's all happening at our place at the moment - we've just come into spring and the snakes have come out to find a mate... We have had four different carpet snakes cruise by in the past day - all heading for the large female carpet snake we have that lives in the ceiling... When I say large, I mean HUGE... she's over 4m long... The four snakes that went past were probably 3.5m plus, 3.5m, 2.5m and 2m long... Got some good pics of them if anyone is interested - I'll have to get them off my phone when I get home.

Yikes... The carpety's aren't poisonous, and are generally pretty docile... they do bite like a rabid dog if they get cranky though... We do have a bunch of poisonous snakes in this area, but we don't see them too often...

Ran across one of these[^] when I was in SE Asia, it wasn't hungry and I wasn't curious enough to stick around...he was huge.

Calling in sick is probably the worst thing you could do... I'm still at HOME with the snakes!! Heading to work now...

Are you sure these are carpet snakes? According to Wikipedia the largest ever recorder was 2.8 and most never grew over 2! You may have a world record there!
I'm not questioning your powers of observation; I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is. (V)

I know Wikipedia is not necessarily correct... there may be more than one type of snake in the world called a carpet snake... Here's a slightly more reputable source: clickety[^] The photos I have are almost identical to the ones on the page (including two snakes in the rafters).

Oh, that's a beauty! I'd REALLY like to see one of those in the wild! How lucky you are. Here in Sweden, we have nothing more interesting than this little thing[^] - it IS poisonous, but not very much, and it never attacks humans unless you actually step on it (who wouldn't?)

Sounds nasty!! We have our fair share of venomous snakes... I wouldn't be so blasé about it all if these ones were... these ones are just big and impressive!!

Actually I am of the few that loves snakes and spiders. Wouldn't be so cruel as to keep them as a pet but in the wild they are gorgeous.

:badger: :badger: :badger:These ones aren't pets either... They have just taken up residence... we are fairly happy to share as long as they stay outside of the actual living areas of the house!!

Good point. I'd rather just go and safely get them out and take them somewhere they will not be a bother, because a snake in the roof can mean a snake on the floor with roof bits and pieces around it and a nice new hole to stare into
