Yeah, I have written a concept with requirements analysis, all processes, activity-, class-, data-diagramms, state-machine, mockups, role-rights-matrix. Everything that tells how the software will work, how it will be implemented, how it looks afterwards. I've written n - what did I say - not n but x concepts and now for the first time the Customer asked me: Do I have to read it? What should I say? I liked to tell him that it's just to wallpaper, or - even more likely - shove it up his ... X| More than three days of work for... argh! :(( Yes! He has to read it and he has to sign if it is the way he want his software be implemented or not!

Fun that, isn't it? I worked for a couple of months to get the User Manual spot on, and easy to read. Harder work than writing the embedded software for the device was - and that took a year or so. How many people do you think read it? To my knowledge, two. And one of them is me... :sigh:

Let imagine that your customer reads and signs it - does it change anything?!

He has to sign or retract it. Of cource I can't force him to read it. On the other hand it would be good, because he would know what we will do before we have done it. And in the case we don't speak about a special department but the it department. He should know what he has to do and he should be able to read it.

I don't know. Most time I don't get many insults. Most of our customers are happy with the things we do. Many of them work with us for 10 or 20 years.

Probably not, but he will be able to tell the customer to go and fuck himself because he not only read the detailed proposal thingy, but signed his name to it ageeing it was what he wanted.

Playing devil's advocate here - it doesn't sound like the sort of document you are presenting to the customer is customer-friendly; Can he be expected to understand

for example? If you present someone with too much information, much of which is not within their area of expertise, then you may as well not bother - what's the point other than trying to cover your arse? Simplify it, reduce the volume and then you have something he will surely sign off. It's like if you had a house built and, instead of nice 3d models, drawings etc. you get given great lists of load-bearing limits on joints, tile Housdorff units etc. when you just want to know it has a front ad back door, how big the rooms are, and it won't fall down.
