I just finished installing Visual Studio 2013 Community edition. At launch it asked me to sign in and the "Learn more" link brought me to this page[^]. It talks about extending the trial periods and unlocking visual studio. As I am a single user and only ever use visual studio on one machine, do I have to sign up or can I use visual studio long term without signing up?

It registers you copy of vs then you can log out. So they can't track you. If you do sign you can use Visual Studio online, with source control. :)

Actually you do not need to login to work on it. Visual Studio would work without that too. I have used Visual Studio without logging into the account. But sometimes a License is required, to create applications like Windows store or Phone applications. In those cases, an account might be required to update (or fetch a new) license for your developer network. Good luck!
