It is now up to us, the people, the common man on the street, to get up and do something. I believe that when the people in India and Pakistan stop hating each other, the problem will automatically be solved and we can be friends again. So true, all of that, the good and the bad. It is quite mad that two nations of hundreds of thousands, millions even, of acres each is fighting over a tiny area of land. My sig has a lot to do with this. It seems a sickness amongst leaders to find themselves in situations that they feel pushing on with the madness is preferable to being humble and admiting to their mistakes. Shall be many thousands of years before humanity changes enough to get through this way of thinking IMO. Yippeeee!!! We won against the Pakistanis. Shoaib Akhtar came to bowl and gave away 18 runs in his first over. He was hastily pulled back from the bowling attack. India won. :jig: Everyone was fantastic. The Pakistanis had put up a good score, and with the kind of bowling attack that they have, I was very skeptical about the Indian performance. Especially considering that our side had to chase, and bat under pressure, something we are not very good at. And then the Pak team had Akhtar Express, Akram, etc which I feel are very good bowlers. Well at least Akhtar bowle pretty fast. And the Indians and Pakistanis were playing against each other after almost 3 years and we have many players in our team who were facing them for the first time. But stil we won. :jig: And convincingly. :jig: Congrats to every Indian. And congrats to the Pakistanis too, for the wonderful performance by their team. It was wonderful the way they came out of their bad form. But the better team won the match. ;P And congrats to all the cricket lovers out there. It was seven hours of total non stop entertainment. And oh yeah, India won the match! :jig:

Brilliant, brilliant match!! Loved every minute of it. Too bad Sachin could not get to his century, but what a rollicking start by Sehwag and the little master. I hope Paul is wrong about the riots. Sports is suppose to bring people together and not create further rifts. Sad state of affairs, if this is indeed true. I did not hear anything so far though. Pankaj P.S: Bring on the Aussies :) We are taking the cup home this time! Without struggle, there is no progress

pankajdaga wrote: Too bad Sachin could not get to his century Yes indeed. I still feel that if he had taken a runner a bit earlier, maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't have broken his concentration, what with the pain and then the physio coming in. pankajdaga wrote: I did not hear anything so far though. Neither did I, even this morning, and hopefully the incident was really small or did not happen at all. So far the news is still showing how we won and how Indians are celebrating, all over India and all over the world. :) pankajdaga wrote: Bring on the Aussies :) We are taking the cup home this time! On this wicket if Bangladesh was playing in place of India, the results would have been the same. There was no chance at all for Pakistan to win this one after scoring less than 320. The pitch was not supporting bowlers at all. Sachin, of course is a big asset of India team. BTW, we are still not out of the tournoument. We will watch Sunday's match with more entusiasm that the India's match. If Aussies kill England then we may reach super sixes and have one more chance to take revenge from India in Semis

If i am not wrong, then i think that Pakistani government has not made any restriction on their team to play against India. India is itself not playing with Pakistan as i read from CNN-SI that "under the hood" Indian government has a fear of public reaction if the lose against Pak.

Sigh. I don't know about the Pakistani government, but yes, Indian government has placed restrictions on playing any sport, not just Cricket with Pakistan, in either India or Pakistan. But on neutral grounds, when more than just India and Pakistan are playing, there are no restrictions whatsoever. And before you mention Sharjah, let me tell you that Sharjah is a different story altogether. We don't go to Sharjah to play since a number of years now, much before these restrictions were imposed. These restrictions are not because "the government is afriad of losing the match and hence losing face", as some pseudo-know-all-but-actually-stupid "journalist" puts it. Winning and losing is a part and parcel of every game. The restrictions are there because of safety concernes and as a protest against the alleged support to terrorists from Pakistan. This is not just in sports, but in all activities.

I would have agreed with you except for the fact that Pakistani bowlers can blow the Bangladeshis away with half a fart in their general direction. India did bat well, and that was the reason they won. As for the pitch supporting batsmen, both Pakistan and India got a chance to bat. You can't say that India won just because the pitch supported batsmen. What happened to Pakistani batsmen then? On this wicket if Bangladesh was playing in place of India, the results would have been the same. There was no chance at all for Pakistan to win this one after scoring less than 320. The pitch was not supporting bowlers at all. Sachin, of course is a big asset of India team. BTW, we are still not out of the tournoument. We will watch Sunday's match with more entusiasm that the India's match. If Aussies kill England then we may reach super sixes and have one more chance to take revenge from India in Semis

If our bowlers had bowled HALF as good as they can they would have made a better fight of it. As for Tendulkar, wow. What form he's in! Shake, McGrath, shake.

Yes, Pakistan is an Islamic state, while India is secular. I am not saying that there are no differences. I didn't even say that the culture was the same. I just said that the roots are the same. And many people in India used to live in present day Pakistan and many in Pakistan used to live in present day India before the partition happened. Your president Musharraf is from Agra, U.P., a northern state of India. Many of our politicians, film stars are from Pakistan. Lal Krishna Advani (if I am not wrong), the Raj Kapoor family, etc. John-theKing wrote: No, Urdu is national language in Pakistan,, which is dying in India (according to Dilip Kumar) Yes, but Urdu is one of the officially recognized languages here. It is still taught in many places. Urdu is a necessary language to learn if you want to practise law here. Because most old documents, wills, etc are in Urdu. Besides, I was not talking about the official national language. You guys can also speak and understand Hindi very well. And Hindi has a lot of Urdu words in it. Do you know how Urdu was formed, by the way? It has origins in Arabic, Faarsi, and Hindi. The language evolved because of the difficulty that the common people faced in learning and speaking Arabic and Faarsi. It's a language of the people, the masses. Urdu is becoming less and less common as a spoken language, but we still have a lot of "shayers" around who compose in Urdu, and it is their preferred language. People feel proud if they can use Urdu words, especially difficult ones, in their sentences. It's wrong to say that Urdu is dying. I'd say instead that Urdu and Hindi are slowly becoming one language. John-theKing wrote: No way, Indian are vegetarians while in Pakistan meat specially cow's meat is common. Indians are both vegetarian and non vegetarian. As for the meat of cow, Muslims in India eat it too, if that's what you are on about. If Sushma Swaraj said people are smart just because they are vegetarians, she's an idiot. But I think all the hardcore vegetarians will say something like that. It has nothing to do with religion, community or nationality.
