I wonder who all this stuff is written for. Recently I walked into a garage and on being greeted I said "I would like to buy a car" - the receptionist looked at me surprised and got a salesman. I repeated the same to him and again he seemed pleasantly surprised by my lack of BS. Anyway two hours later, which seemed much too long to me (15 minutes top is what I would expect), I walked out having bought a new car with the salesman commenting on "how fast" the sale was. Some of us just know what we want and don't want an 'experience' when we are buying something - I wonder if neolithic hunters wanted an 'experience' when they were trying to catch a rabbit for their lunch. rant rant rant...

Reading that reminded me of when I bought my watch. I had, for a long time, wanted a standard stainless steel Rolex Oyster. I got a small windfall and so, £1,500 burning a hole in my best trousers, went to the shop. My request was simple, "I would like the Stainless Steel Oyster with the faux-Pearl face and President bracelet that you have in the window."; price as stated. It took me two bloody hours to buy the watch! They just would not believe that I could walk in and just ask that one. The fact I'd wanted one for, probably, 20 years was missed by one and all. It is now more than 20 years since the transaction and I am still haunted by the stupidity of it all - 10 minutes and they could have earned all that bloody commision!

Toronto airport gates B and C, looks good. Every thing is a restaurant, each seat or table, an iPad and payment terminal; Sushi, café, bars, vast. Sit down and try to order a wine, no drinks menu is displayed when I select 'buy drinks'. So I lean over and try the neighbouring one. That dinks menu hasn't got any wine on it. 'Just give me a glass of wine will you and forget this technology crap' I say to the guy behind the bar. Technology, if only it worked.... Oh, and the BA app to download your boarding pass isn't compatible with one of the most popular phones on the market, the Samsung Galaxy. Typical. No wonder I actually hate computers, or mores specifically the morons who write code for them.

You must hate yourself then. Accounting is just another type of code... ;P

You can't know how many times I repeated that sentence this morning: first day of work after a straight month of vacation and... the train has been cancelled, 1 full hour late at work with a month of accumulated sunshine-storms. Blasphemy in Italy is ill-considered but well practiced :D

Yep. Not only is it fucking hard core and difficult, the technology doesn't change every 2 years. That makes it constant, something you can build on. Not like COM, Cobra, SOAP, Java, .Net and all that crap. For me its just C, the unchanging kernel API, and known, and very old protocols. :)
