Waiting for my towel to dry after I left it in the window sill last nite when it started raining, still not cold enough to justify a heater though. ;P I'm meant to be studying though, but just cant get into studying after 6 years of working... Any tips? I rated this article 2 by mistake. It deserves more. I wanted to get to the second page... - vjedlicka 3:33 25 Nov '02

Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: I was only away from studies for a year, so I didn't have much problem being assimilated by the system again. The only thing I can recommend is to put all the work away, don't even give it a thought if that's possible. If you're working in parallel with your studies, I imagine that can be quite hard. I have liitle odd web work on the side, nothin major. My course is also a bit messy. I want to do Enginering Sciences, but they are forcing me to finish up my final year of a Business Economics degree. I'm taking 2 1st year enginering subjects though (Engeniring math and CS). The problems is I'm not remotely interested in Economics and all that jazz, and the CS and math (to a degree) is not that hard. In time I hope :) I'm already helping most ppl in the CS class. Phew what a bunch of dumbasses! You would think that 3 years of pascal at school level would have tought them at least the basics of programming, but NO. ;P I rated this article 2 by mistake. It deserves more. That's the way to go. They'll grow, or shrink, as persons depending on how you look at it. Either way, it's good for them. To become good at something, one has to work for it. A sentiment not often found in people these days. :( -- Shine, enlighten me - shine Shine, awaken me - shine Shine for all your suffering - shine

Hi all Just finished downloading Slackware 9. Only 1 650mb CD. All the dev apps you need with none of the crap ussually included with other distros. Install was a bit problematic with scsi, but work flawlessly 2nd try. It even sports the new xfree 4.3 and kde 3.1 (im using what they call the redmond theme, heck i cant even notice the difference now ;P ). I would recommend this to anyone! No wonder those *nix ppl always swore by slackware. This is the easiest link I have found. http://media.punkmac.com/slackware-9.0-iso/slackware-9.0-install.iso[^] I rated this article 2 by mistake. Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: Is KDevelop 3 any good otherwise? v1 and 2 were pretty weak What comes with Slackware looks good indeed. 2 is not so bad though. Just cant figure out how to set breakpoints yet  I'm building the latest ver 3 CVS checkout now (no wonder people are moving to .NET, these builds take ages). The new UI layout (IDEA) is also pretty kewl, but you really need 1024x768 or above. There are many bugs still, hopefully they have fixed the annoying ones. All in all, I rate it rather good. I do miss the VS.NET integrated debugger though. I rated this article 2 by mistake. It deserves more. I wanted to get to the second page... - vjedlicka 3:33 25 Nov '02

leppie wrote: no wonder people are moving to .NET, these builds take ages Edit the makefiles and remove all
-Wall
. Heck, remove all-Wxxx
. That'll keep the compiler from doing unnecessary semantic checks which is completly a waste of time unless you're developing Kdevelop yourself.. :) You could also try building the code using paralellization tricks in make. On a uniprocessor machine, runmake -j5
. This'll makemake
run at most 5 paralell compilers. Apparently, 5 is a good number for uniprocessor systems, don't ask me why :) leppie wrote: The new UI layout (IDEA) is also pretty kewl, but you really need 1024x768 or above. You've got less than 1024x768? :~ Are you running it on a laptop or what? :) Hmm.. I think I'll boot up my debian installation and have a go at Kdevelop (if it's available as a package that is) -- Shine, enlighten me - shine Shine, awaken me - shine Shine for all your suffering - shine -
