I thought all settings could be managed locally on the phone. I have no Android so no google account experience. Thank you for the hint

You need to do better than that. At the very least explain how Windows differs from macOS or anything Google has released in terms of tracking what you do.

Ask it this way, since MSFT arent asking money for Windows 10, how is it making money for them? --edit-- Oh, and I wouldnt buy a mac either, I am just not that image conscious. Didnt you guess that when we met? :)

I guess what he meant is he won't use any OS at all :-) Not sure how he managed to post on this forum though.

Firstly, you're a very stylish man and you know it. A macbook draped around your shoulders would truly set off the Swarovski miniture apple watch earings you were showing off. Secondly, ... here's an article about where MS makes its money[^]. What's fascinating to me is that ad revenue (from Bing) isn't mentioned.

He's an embedded guy - he probably hacked the front door keypad and spent several hours tapping wires together to create a binary representation of his post that was then translated and transmitted along some dodgy 9600 baud service line. If I change one of this page's element IDs it'll totally screw him up. Listen carefully as I make the change and you will hear the howl of rage.

The Google Play app is on the phone. You can also go to Phone Settings > Apps, and select individual apps that you want to allow to update automatically -- I've only done that for antivirus signatures, but some people allow a few more.

Dammit Chris, you promised not to tell anyone! :) I find that the sudden decision to dump win10 for free, and push it at every opportunity (like evry single link on MSDN takes you to windows 10 it seems) odd, and a bit desperate. Now how about porting .Net to Linux? Thats weird too. Do they really think Windows has run its course and is at risk of dying? MSFT makes their money on Office and screwing corporates for useless support contracts doesnt it? Anyway, lets look at the link... Yeah, so this is based on a 'post PC' premise, ie, windows has become unimportant to them. Kind of confirms what I said. --edit-- This is wht I switched from windows kernel to linux kernel, the growth there is impressive, while windows kernel is dying out in the marketplace.

Remember that Apple started making OS updates free way before Windows did.

Didnt know that, but it doesnt answer the question. Does MSFT see the Windows OS PC as a dead end, a dinosaur?

So, let me get this right... the Windows 10 upgrade allows people to use Windows 7 ("most productive Windows")?

                        - I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

I think they see it as a means to an end. And the end is Azure.
