Trump/Trump followers and ISIS share similarities in that they both use honor/shame language, and both are trying to "reclaim" honor by removing that of their opponents. But they have very different views about honor and (fortunately) use different means of reclaiming that honor.

You're giving Liberals a free pass on this same behavior? Do the phrases "misogynistic", "xenophobic", "homophobic", "basket full of deplorables", "...want old people to eat cat food so they can buy their medicines", "...throw old people off the cliff" ring any bells? Oh no, that's not shaming or ad hominem at all.
If you think 'goto' is evil, try writing an Assembly program without JMP.

People made a lot of money out of planning what the principles should say, and when it should be said. Don't blame the monkeys for dancing to the organ-grinders' tunes.

That is not what capitalism is.
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.
How would you know what capitalism is? You claim to be a Christian, so it's against your religion.

I'm not in the mood to argue. Maybe you are, but I find that life is more enjoyable when you don't always argue with people who find too much joy in arguing and no joy in nothing else. Further more, everyone knows the church plus state thing has more to do with forced practices. Nobody is forcing you to say that. We also have freedom of speech. Which means I can say it. And furthermore, anyone who is any way in any form educated in more modern studies regarding spirituality know that God can mean different things to different people, which means even the non-religious (traditionally speaking) can use it. My point is, dude... don't always argue.

Life's funny, that way. Actually, it's not funny; it's just human. Let's go with "Everyone blames someone else for their problems". So, because I don't wish to appear to be too inhuman, I'm laying the blame for all my problems at your feet!

Well sure, 'tis human nature. What I find sad is that people don't realize it. Then again, the reason I'm not married is because women are crazy (joking).

This is a collaboration website is it not? With that said, I understand the rules... but they're also just changing them for one day on a whim, why not be consistent?
That's the understanding I share with you. I guess because one sets the rules in one's own abode. I dont recall a pledge of consistency being a part of the contract I entered into a decade ago. I understand what you're getting at, really I think I do. I also can't help but think that the saying about the tail not wagging the dog to be somehow pertinent. Anyhow, hope I haven't and sorry if I've offended you or behaved poorly

Who's arguing? I'm just sticking firecrackers in holes, because it's more fun (and Way more sensible) than taking any of this seriously. I.e. this is yet another transient event that we (especially those of us who aren't USAian) won't even think about in a few years' time, so just have fun with it. Life is full of such dramatically important events, which, when you stop thinking emotionally and/or irrationally, you realise aren't really dramatic or important to you, after all. Yet another game of men chasing balls around a field was won by some team? Pfft. Yet another lying jerk won an election between lying jerks? Meh. Firefly was cancelled? Hey, now, wai... Just hold on a minute!

Which? Sharia law? It comprises laws made by people for people to follow. Some of it's dumb, some of it's cruel, some of it's unenforceable, some of it's abused, and some of it's singularly good. Show me the laws of any country that you can't say exactly the same things about. Whose laws are right? Buggered if I know.
Kirk 10389821 wrote:
less fortunate
By "less fortunate", do you mean broke? That's not my definition. I've been broke, but it never stopped me from being happy with my family and friends, which is where the bulk of happiness lies. Contrarily, I'm loaded, and I miss those days when I could feel truly happy, unencumbered with responsibilities and things that take up all my time. But now I'm "fortunate". Then, I was just fortunate. Not everyone wants to dedicate their entire life to increasing their mortal wealth, which, in the end, gives them less than a smile from a child. Sure, several people (but certainly not everyone) could become stinking rich, by dedicating their lives to doing only that, but one person climbing to the top has to do so by pushing countless others down (ask Trump), so for every one who goes up, a lot are kicked back to the bottom of the heap. And, of course, the climb is made ever harder, if more are people trying to ascend the same, small slope, so the bottom of the slope rises, and the divide between those who are wealthy and those who are not gets ever wider, and harder to breach. History and common sense can't be trumped by monopolar beliefs, no matter how enthusiastic they are.

Well that is a dive down into philosophy. There is fundamentally ONLY one law. Might makes right. It works for all animals in the jungle. The strong survive, the weak die. Again, I am not sure why you think I suggest chasing money. I never did. Find something you want to do, and do it. Preferably within the law (never said which ones, it applies locally) And also having a positive impact on your community. You turned that into a statement about corporate greed. But AMAZINGLY you NEVER said what you would suggest people do. BTW, being happy is an emotional state. One that even small children know how to induce. apparently you have lost the skill and believe it is associated with your "fortunate" status. Sorry to hear that. Hope you can stop for 30 seconds, think of something SILLIER than forgetting how to be happy, and simply laugh at how easy it is to draw upon an emotional state. And Smile. And feel happy! Really happy. Really grateful. God Bless

Good point. However, it's probably safe to assume that you're not mighty, and that you're therefore wrong. Personally, I like to think that humans have evolved past the level of animal behaviour. After all, putting animal cravings and monomaniacal behaviour behind us is one of the requirements of civilised society -- a city of even a meagre million beasts would soon devour itself. But, obviously, some people either are, or prefer to remain, unevolved. And, BTW, it's past midnight, so the Lounge "no politics" ban is back in force, and further political discussion can't take place here. Unfortunately, that's one of the many, many, many laws that you have to follow, even though they are not included in your list of all laws. Evolution (or lack of it)? No problem. Discuss away.

I was a Trumper from day 1. I am a white male who grew up on the free lunch program just outside of detroit, where I was born. I graduated in 1992 after 7 years of college, where I had to work full-time to put myself through school (with some financial AID, tons of loans, and pell grants too). My daughters Hattian (for context) friend of many years exclaimed that if it were not for my WHITE PRIVILEGE, I would not have done so well. I worked 3 jobs for most of my adult life, and started my own business, on the side, over 10 years, while working full-time elsewhere. I am DEEPLY offended by these comments, and she throws them out like it is somehow true. There are HAVES and HAVE NOTS in this country to be sure. Those who HAVE WORKED harder than their peers Those who HAVE EDUCATED themselves Those who HAVE EARNED their income and those who HAVE NOT... But I don't hate this young lady. I think of her as a daughter, in fact. A misguided one to be sure. She never suffered slavery here, because she is a first generation American. I say ALL of this to set the following stage... Enough Divisive Language. I want EVERYONE in America to do well. Honestly! I want EVERYONE who is willing to work, to have that opportunity. I am not against immigrants, I am against Free Loaders, and Illegal Immigration. I am against lawlessness. We have the best police in the world. Honestly. Get pulled over in Mexico and have them put you in the back of a police car. Your odds of disappearing are now REAL! I am against a media that constantly allows people to MISSTATE the truth, and fails to help set the record straight. (Trump NEVER Intended that ALL MEXICANS are rapists, etc. He was speaking about Illegals that were coming here, and the people the Mexican Government was glad to see go. But the media glosses over this, and allows a false narrative to live to attack and divide us). Trump is INELEGANT, IMPREFECT and quite Human. So, while I want to scream "we saved our country from some horrible ideas"... I also want to say: Now is the time we must ALL roll up our sleeves and help. We as consumers must CALL OUT the media for being divisive We must call out others for being divisive We must EXPECT that laws should either be changed or enforced, but never ignored! We must come together... Because We The People are all this republic has. I love All Americans. Even the ones with differing political views. I hate only horrible people. Lets treat our government as OLD CODE that need

They ardently believe in their way of life, the same as anyone who is even mildly fanatical. Fanaticism of any kind is a bad thing, because one of its main effects is to give people the errant belief that they are better than people who don't share their beliefs -- and saying "Our fanatics are better than Your fanatics!" is just plain dumb. I have yet to see a belief system that convinces me that it is what we were put on this Earth for -- and capitalism comes Incredibly low on the score chart. People exist to dedicate their lives to the pursuit of money? I don't think so.
