Yard/rummage/garage sale

This past weekend Shelly (my wife) and I held a huge yard sale. (BTW, what do you guys normally call these?) It involved donations from about 34 different families, because we held it in order to raise money for an adoption. (Shelly and I have been married 6 years -- no kids yet :(. So, we've decided to adopt as soon as we have the money. :)) Needless to say, we are extremely worn out from hauling all that stuff. When we put away the leftovers, we looked at it and realized it was about the right amount for your average yard sale. :eek: A pat on the back and a big grin to the first one to guess how much money the yard sale brought in! :-D (Hint: it was quite successfull for a yard sale. Don't bother with anything other than a "0" in the 1's position, and completely disregard digits that would follow the decimal point.) John
I'd say about $50-75 depending on the stuff you're selling. Most things at rummage sales around here are $1 or less.

It sounds like you're basing your guess on actual yard sale experience, but you're guess is much too low. :D John

34 families * $20 worth of stuff per family = $680 initial inventory And i'm going to be generous and say you sold half. $340. That's my final answer. They're called yard sales here in SC, but I remember calling them tag sales in CT. Good fortune adopting John, more people should IMO. We don't really have yard/garage/boot sales here. Most people who want to sell that kind of thing flock together at weekend fleamarkets and sell there. Most make zip. Good to hear you did well though :)

The total was *insert suspense-building something-or-other here* $1500. That is just plain amazing for a yard sale. I'm still not sure that I can believe it. John
