The only podcasts I really get into are retro gaming and/or retro hardware related. TheRetroHour[^], on Spotify, is one of my favorites.

If anyone remembers Leo Laporte from TechTV, he's launched his own [podcast "network"](https://twit.tv/) after TechTV shut down. A lot of his podcasts are more mainstream than developers might like, but there's a few that are still technical enough; [Security Now](https://twit.tv/shows/security-now) perhaps being the most hardcore of them. [Windows Weekly](https://twit.tv/shows/windows-weekly) focuses on Windows news, and I mostly listen to it for entertainment; I just like the banter. [This Week in Tech](https://twit.tv/shows/this-week-in-tech) is more about tech news in general, and I could take it or leave it. Other shows they produce focus on Apple and Android, and those are just too fanboy-ish for my tastes.

      No. They're all terrible.

      raddevus wrote:

Beyond those I've mentioned above, I listen to [No Agenda](https://www.noagendashow.net/), which is purely news deconstruction (although there's a lot of focus on US politics, especially these days obviously). They essentially focus on exposing the BS there is in the media presented as "news". They cover enough material to keep me informed so I generally don't bother with the mainstream media--this podcast alone makes their coverage redundant. And they dig a lot deeper.

Nope. Give me a raw RSS feed and I'm a happy podcast listener.

      raddevus wrote:

Yes. No to Apple. "No to Apple" in general. My device of choice is my old Zune. Still works fine, and it manages podcasts on its own exactly as podcasts should be managed. The only reason I listen to *some* podcasts on my computer instead of the Zune is that some of them have dropped older encryption algorithms, and the Zune software doesn't know how to handle them.

I never listen to any sort of tech podcast. My brain is already full of useless tech stuff. It will go into overload and explode if I try to absorb any more! :wtf: I used to listen to lots of, (non-tech), podcasts when I was commuting into the office, but have seriously lapsed since WFH. Now, whilst working, I just listen to music. I can't concentrate if people are talking at me - resulting in sh!t code and losing the thread of the podcast!!! :wtf: :(

I've listened to over 100 (unabridged) books on tape, CD, ram player over the years as I commuted to and from work. I always tried to stick with non-fiction so I'd learn something but also listened to quite a few fiction. At one point all of my listening was related to how the brain works and I really learned a lot. And I agree I don't even like listening to music with lyrics when I'm programming. I listen to smooth jazz (only instrutmental) almost constantly.

 Given that statement, I actually found one (tech related) and tried to work while listening...doesn't really work for me. At least with a video you are kind of forced to focus/watch...just a couple of guys talking shop couldn't hold my interest. That said, it might work nicely with headphones while the wife is watching HGTV reruns.

There are a couple of good C++ podcasts (one is more regular than the other). Also listen to one or two .NET podcasts and some other programming language related ones. I listen to more podcasts on other subjects, though - history, football (the non-US version of football!), music - very large variety of things.

Java, Basic, who cares - it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippy cr*p

 Given that statement, I actually found one (tech related) and tried to work while listening...doesn't really work for me. At least with a video you are kind of forced to focus/watch...just a couple of guys talking shop couldn't hold my interest. That said, it might work nicely with headphones while the wife is watching HGTV reruns.

Yeah, most of them are tough to listen to. They just get into the weeds on subjects and I get lost.

You can make your own here[^]. Maybe I should allow them to be embedded in the forums...
