If you're learning programming in school I suggest posting a daily this is what I learned today can anyone comment, improve or extrapolate. You'd get a much friendlier crowd.

I'd imagine that there would be lots of 'interesting' comments if they began posting something like this.
"the debugger doesn't tell me anything because this code compiles just fine" - random QA comment "Facebook is where you tell lies to your friends. Twitter is where you tell the truth to strangers." - chriselst "I don't drink any more... then again, I don't drink any less." - Mike Mullikins uncle

Heck no, actually I think the teacher flaming interesting comments could be funny, at least for a few days.

I think what people try to tell you is that you there is 2 problem with your attempt at communication - it's a website about people interested in programming, mostly in a practical professional fashion, it's not clear what you doing here... - most people here are well past their teenage years (professional programmer, you know) and, well, they don't have the same sense of humor or interests..

None of the above? You have to remember that most of the regulars here are both adults (in some cases senior citizens) and developers (in many cases of long standing): they have heard most "programming jokes" many, many times before, and know how to find "funny video clips". So if you want to be interesting, popular - whatever it is that you want - then posting stuff we already know isn't likely to do that ... Stop treating this as Twatter or FarceBook and you'll probably fit in better. Just a thought.

Said the person who had the ToTD for years* * Those were, admittedly, mostly funny.

I hope you soon find yourself free of the compulsion to post any whatever-of-the-day, and find you can use the psychic energy freed up to do more constructive, meaningful ... things. cheers, Bill

Believe it or not, I like to read as well.
I have been around here for 8 years and joined to ask for help with a coding problem because I was tired of the lack of friendliness on SO. I soon realized the professional level of expertise in the community. Nonsense was at a much higher level of learning and the interchange of banter was more sophisticated than high school or bar room jokes. So as you stated in your BIO you like to read. Just a suggestion Read along for a while and get the feel of the community. I am NOT saying Don't contribute just think about the audience. A chef would not add pudding to a dish of Lasagne At 16 you should be appalled for wanting to contribute just ask yourself if the Sangria would make the Lasagne taste better.
