This already exists on SAAB Gripen. Except, specifically not for the Fly-by-wire software. It's mostly used for the EW-suite.

[The Air Force’s Secret New Fighter Jet Will Get Software Updates as It Flies](https://www.popularmechanics.com/military/aviation/a39752243/ngad-software/) Hmm. A high-performance aircraft receives updates to its fly-by-wire software while flying. What could possibly go wrong?

The article suggests aircraft would function as one large network?

I would not want to be mid-flight when the aircraft decides it needs to update its software...

It's typical public B.S. about defense systems, their development and deployment written by morons. I'd bet the actual 'update capability' refers to C3I sharing of strategic and tactical data in real-time during battle.

It likely has redundant systems, as it is fly-by-wire and updates are not the only thing that endanger the cyborg.

The calculation... Okay, this is perfect, we will glide for 45 seconds... With a slight descent, we have 60 seconds to pull back up. So we will be fine... Flaws in logic: 1) When has the ESTIMATE for time required EVER been accurate 2) Middle of the updating... Adjusting Flaps during reset... [that's when REAL panic sets in] 3) Once started... You are NOT stopping this... I see an interesting side effect. The problem will be logged as: "Pilot had a heart attack" The software Update, while being the cause, won't be mentioned... LOL

Even worse. Remember that RPM attack that took down Russian Servers based on their location when the Ukraine thing started... Imagine... The plane is flying a secret mission, the update comes in... And that kind of code is in there... this kind of stuff... Or it takes the FOF (Friend or Foe) signal offline, just long enough... This just SMACKS of a STUPID idea.
