the cycle of life in development

- year 1, feature request, can you make a screen that show this and that? - year 2, feature request, can you hide that when you show this? - year 3, bug request, hey I noticed that that is hidden when this is shown, can you fix that? ... and the cycle repeat... the older the software, the less productive the developers :(

Sounds familiar, we are also trying to move away from making "customized" versions of our software for every customer.

I thought there was money in doing that. Maybe you're too nice.

There is money in that sort of thing, but can you imagine the configuration management headaches? A bug found in one branch must be ported to the other branches, where it must be tested and released. With any significant number of customizations, this quickly becomes a nightmare.

This, but replace "year" with "week", or sometimes "day".

Sounds painfully familiar. Used to work on such system. Quarter of century in development, 3-4 million ROC, bloated interface with latest addition of some insufferable outsourced parts. You change something and all the hell gets loose.

Haha you're really unlucky, this is like criminally bad management! :0
