Hey people, I want to conduct a very informal poll. I've heard often people say, when making small talk, that people who are involved in math, science and computers tend to be good musicians as well. I sing in a few choral groups, play the piano, and compose music. (Where has my life gone  ) Anyone else involved with music in some way? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- "If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be research." -- Albert Einstein Cheers, Brian Hart

I play guitar, sing, and overall enjoy music. I have been in 3 hardcore/heavy bands and one emo band in the past few years. Music is my life.

Funny thing - I played guitar non stop for 10 years and stopped due to time commitments when I started programming seriously ( I had always tinkered with coding since about 1984, I actually sold my first guitar to buy an Apple ][ ) I played in a few band situations and was the drop in for lead guitar among friends when performing/recording. I played hard rock & blues. I still have an acoustic, but it never gets played, quite literally. I'd rather be learning something new. I just bought books on STL ( which is the one I am focusing on and using ), OpenGL, graphics, Python, and debugging ( the excellent M$ book, I read it on the train home ), and I still have books on COM/ATL I have been unable to find time to read, except using them to help me start learning WTL. The clown next to me just bagged me out for talking about the STL *again*. He is also a programmer and says he *listens* to music, which ( apart from his Metallica CD's ) I seriously doubt. Please note that my responding to this thread does in no way indicate I was ever a *good* musician :) Christian The content of this post is not necessarily the opinion of my yadda yadda yadda. G'day Brian, I played semi-professionally in a band for a few years about 20 years ago, but barely pick my guitar or bass up at all these days. Oh, and I can't sing for nuts. :(( Steve

I joined the Vienna's Boys Choir when I was 8 and later on studied conducting & composing. I'm playing the piano for more than 20 years now. I'm deeply involved into recording , electronic-instruments stuff and musically directing shows and musicals. I just started to programm because my dream of a perfect midi-masterkeyboard-software for keyboarders, studio-cracks or threatre-technicians never came true. No company ever did the ultimative thing, yet. I will do it...;) Manfred --- Programming is knowing...

I love music so much that I became a music software developer. My forays outside this little industry have been disappointing and depressing. As far as playing.. I'm a synth hack. Love the modulars, never became much of a keyboard player. But I still get some stuff done.

I play guitar and piano and sometimes pretend I know how to sing. Playing/composing/recording for 30+ years, less now than before :-(. The morbidly curious (or just plain bored) can check out . Cheers, /ravi "There is always one more bug..." http://www.ravib.com ravib@ravib.com
