This http://global.bsa.org/usa/press/newsreleases/2003-05-08.1621.phtml BSA represents the world’s leading developers of software, hardware and e-commerce technologies. As one of the leading contributors to the U.S. balance of trade, U.S. information technology (IT) and software makers have contributed a trade surplus of $24.3 billion in 2002. As a leading engine of global economic growth, the industry contributed a trillion dollars to the global economy in 2002. In the U.S. alone, the IT industry contributed $405 billion to the U.S. economy, creating 2.6 million jobs and generating $342 billion in tax revenues in 2002. got me thinking on the back of a envelope. (All figures in USD) Firstly I checked here http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/inside_ms.asp to see what Microsoft’s headcount was. I really cannot imagine what all those head’s are doing. Lets say Microsoft has 1000 developers (50 teams of 20) who actually produce commerical code. Operating systems, Tools and Office. And another 1000 developers (50 teams of 20) who test it and localise it etc. And that on average they earn USD 100,000 so that's a 200 millon bucks say times 2 to allow for offices, electricity, computers etc. So that's 400 million per annum. Lets say Microsoft has 200 program managers, project managers and architects who actually produce commerical code. Operating systems, Tools and Office.. And that on average they earn USD 200,000 so that's a 40 millon bucks say times 2 to allow for offices, electricity, computers etc. So that's 80 million per annum. We will also assume that the msdn and customer support staff earn enough money to support their departments so that they do not need to be cross subsidised from development. If we further assume that they have maintained this staffing level for the last 15 years (a very generous assumption to be sure) then that is a total expenditure of ~ 7 billion dollars not accounting for lost interest inflation etc. So last year alone Microsoft earn 14 billion gross (10 billion nett) on Revenues of 32 billion wiping the slate clean. Over the last 15 years they have earnt 87 billion gross (58 billion nett) on Revenues of 185 billion. And that is just what the accountants and lawyers have not been able to minimize, contra, hide in offshore accounts etc

Nothing personal Bill if you get to read this and I would probably trust you more than some politicians but that is not the point. I do not agree with attending him in G8, but there is a fact that when you have more money, and you have bigger business than others,so you are more powerful than othes. No matter who is the president of United State, you have the power until you have your buisness. Can you get his money from him? Mazy No sig. available now.

Wait a moment, and consider what G8 actually is. It's an informal meeting used by eight leaders and the EC president as a universal summit. I don't think Bill gates has ever officially represented the US at any meetings like this but has gone along as a private citizen who is flipping wealthy. To say he can't attend is depriving him of his rights just because he is loaded. Also of course a lot of senior govt folk wish to meet him and discuss stuff with him, as they do with other business leaders who attend. But remmeber it is an informal summit meeting, and is not a binding organization on concensus issues. Other countries outside of the 8 can also attend however they are unlikely to be marked into the 8s appointment aggenda. Regardz Colin J Davies
