Hello! Just found this Press Release about MS and McAfee new a strategic alliance regarding .NET. It seems that MS Passport service would be more secure in future (and 'Hailstorm' services too), but does this means that MS Passport is not enough secure these days? Or in what area they want improve security in web services? And why McAfee? McAfee VirusScan has been, AFAIK, allways known as source for all kinds of problems in Windows (hang-outs, problems with GUI, with taskbar, with Outlook Express , with Norton Utilities, etc... ). just try search MS KB for string "McAfee". I don't want to be rude to McAfee, all low-level AV software can have problems, but NAI or Symantec wouldn't be a better choice? SlavoF "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. To me, this article isn't saying that this alliance will make Passport more secure. It's saying that McAffee.com is going to use Passport and other HailStorm services for itself to give its users a better experience. That's just my take on it. It seems that way - nice marketing spin, but could get them into trouble: http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/19133.html Giles

but NAI or Symantec wouldn't be a better choice? McAfee and MS have been doing deals since 1998, when McAfee VirusScan was included in the 98 Plus!!! pack. MS actually approached Symantec first (and I don't want to discuss the details, since they might be trade secret or something), but Symantec didn't like the terms MS put forth, so MS then asked McAfee, who accepted. Since then, the two have done other deals, e.g. McAfee software scans attachments on Hotmail. And BTW, NAI is Network Associates, which owns McAfee. :) --Mike-- http://home.inreach.com/mdunn/ #include "buffy_sig"
