Any New Zealand people out there?

New Zealand seems to be a great place to live. The extraordinary landscape, the people, the culture. I like outdoor action and you have lots of opportunities to do it. I'm curious about the employment situation for software developers in New Zealand. Is there a lot of job openings? Where are the jobs, Wellington I suppose? For such a small country, I take it no cutting edge development is done, or am I wrong? How about salaries, what do you make in a year? I'm a 36 year old developer from Sweden. Many years of experience in Internet and multimedia development, C++, C#, ASP, VB, perl etc. What are my chances of getting a job over there? Regards, /Björn

My husband and I have been looking into emigrating to Australia or NZ. It seems since June 2003 NZ have clamped down on skilled immigration and the "No Visa No Fee" agencies won't help with such applications any more. Australia is still relatively straight forward though, providing your skills are up to the standard they are looking for. I'm not sure if being 36 would be a problem though, 25 - 29 seems to be the optimum age.

MFC.NET Application Wizard Mix .NET and MFC easily.LOL - definitely not! The whole thing will take about 3 years (2 years to get the visa, then if we get it we'll start organising the move). Don't worry, I'll have a pint of Guinness on Irish soil yet :cool:.

It's a huge place, with plenty to see. Also, it's close to New Zealand and Asia, making it better for me to travel to those places from there than from England. Maybe I'm too demanding, but my life is really interesting in ways I enjoy (travel, exploration, photographing new places, experiencing new cultures, etc). I'm not rich, my parents gave me only high school education and I put myself through college. Hard work combined with stopping to play rather than hording my salary has given me this attitude :).
