We've been using RegSoft for Awasu and they've been OK. Originally went with Kagi but they sucked eggs as well and we just gave up

Lauren, this is an area I've been looking into quite seriously of late. I currently have my own merchant facility, but I'm looking at off-loading this as much as possible for a new product I'm working on. Do you just need to enable folks to purchase xyz from your Web site using credit card, and then you'll provide the goods/service somehow or is it more involved. Some background info would help. :-) Actually, now you mention it, I think I noticed that at the time as well. I was pressed for time when I was setting it up, had lost a lot of time stuffing around with Kagi and just wanted to get the damn thing set up. I wasn't totally happy with the idea of going with them but they have proved to be OK in the end.

You'd want to confirm this in their FAQ but an O/S transfer is USD $40 (What's an ACH? I think they refer to the transfer as a "wire transfer". They asked for my bank's SWIFT number which I had never heard of before). While that strikes me as remarkably high, it seems to be about standard :-( Their new payment system offers free bank transfers within the US, IIRC.

USD$40 is way to high IMO, especially when their cut is 10% which is on the high side. I get regular wire transfers and the costs are much lower than this. Other providers charge less than US40. I hadn't heard of an ACH until recently. One of the companies I'm considering is Esellerate http://www.esellerate.net[^] and they offer ACH. The charge for this is a very attractive $US5. This is just one of the attractions with Esellerate. Neville Franks, Author of ED for Windows. Free Trial at www.getsoft.com

I agree and this is one of the reasons why I was initially reluctant to go with them. But the others I looked at (and there were a few) all had some other turn-off e.g. they wanted an up-front setup fee. esellerate was one of the ones I considered but I couldn't tell you why I knocked them back :-) However, one of the cornerstones of our strategy with Awasu is world-class support so a reliable payment processor was crucial. We can provide the best support in the world but if there are problems when we are dealing with people's money, it will count for nothing. However, they have proved to be reliable and their support responsive so I don't mind paying the 10%. It's actually higher right now since there is a $3 minimum and we're selling Awasu for $15 (but this will change soon). Had there been problems, I would've had no hestitation in dumping them and finding someone better. But they were good in keeping us informed wrt to their recent systems upgrade and AFAIK, it all went smoothly. The $40 transfer fee I just write up as part of living in the third world :-) and have a relatively high threshold before they send the money over so the fee doesn't eat into our income too much. Chris Losinger's recommendation also counted for a lot - he strikes me as someone who knows what he's doing :-)

I've got a dialog going with eSellerate and am reasonably satisfied so far. The ability to sell from within an app is something they only seem to have, and is appealling. I'd prefer to use my own licensing and software protection system, which I already use in ED, and a new system a friend is working, but this isn't straighforward with some or most providers. Ah yes. The ability to dynamically generate our own licence keys was one of our criteria although I ended up not doing it that way  I'd be interested in hearing more about what you're using and what your friend is working on. For various reasons, protection is not so much of an issue for Awasu but I'd still like something a bit better than what we are using now.

We have worked with WorldPay and they have been easy enough. Not sure if they do the States well though. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Brian Welsch wrote: "blah blah blah, maybe a potato?" while translating my Afrikaans.
