Are you really serious about putting a modified riding mower up against a vette ? I no longer own one ( too old and fat and lazy ) but I used to have one and also a had SCCA license. Used to race in a few amatuer races and the ONLY competition was from the Porches. And even then I now realize the difference was in the tires I was using. the vette was as fast and could handle just as well as any production sports car in the world under 150K. And the newer vettes ( 2000 and up ) are really superior vehicles with the computer controlled suspension and new breaking system and the new engines are a dream. Subaru my ass... :) Richard "The man that hath not music in himself and is not moved with concord of sweet sounds is fit for treasons, stratagems and spoils; Let no man trust him." Shakespeare

Ahh..did I forget to mention I can do the same thing on a logging road and do regularly? I guess it comes down to lifestyle more than anything else. I like to be able to smoke 90% of the other cars on a twisty highway but also like to drive off-road quite often. You just can't do that with most sports cars other than the other rally racing descendants. I could have you wetting your pants in about 2 minutes on a logging road where the vette would be a pile of wreckage in 50 feet. Each his own I guess.

I'm a huge fan of high technology cars. For example, the my WRX is a 4 cylinder 2 liter engine generating 227 hp. That's super efficiency. If you drive it sanely and don't kick in the turbo every two seconds you can drive forever on a tank of gas. But to be honest I used to be into big U.S. cars, I used to own a 69 Buick Wildcat (still my all time favorite care I ever owned), a nice old Monte Carlo etc. I would have drooled over your vette in those days, but now I'm really into European sports cars more than anything else. If I had the money I'd be driving a BMW in all likelihood, not the business man model, the super car model. To me there is really nothing being made in North America that comes close in terms of everything other than raw power. I could be wrong, but that's always been traditionally true.

The funny thing was that I traded in a Toyota Sequoia SUV for my first Vette. My gas mileage improved by 30% (!) and my insurance rates went down $25 a month. Go figure, eh? Son - you got a problem. My current passion is - you guessed it - offroading. I have a Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer fully tripped out - GPS - real ground clearance ( 13.5 in ) a nice big V8 - nice big tires - 4 wheel of course and would be glad to go down any log road - rock trail - desert rally - or just cross country with you in your riding mower :) Seriously it is fun is it not Richard "The man that hath not music in himself and is not moved with concord of sweet sounds is fit for treasons, stratagems and spoils; Let no man trust him." Imagine a classic, classic shoe from years ago, Elaine. One that redefined the shoe world when it came out, blitzed runways and attracted the opposite sex like nobodies business (but gave you the sass to skim only the cream of the crop of course, no sk8r boiz for you). Now, years later they release a tribute shoe, one that is up to date with modern standards but still has the va va voom of that original shoe. Now imagine they also doubled the price. I don't think anybody is going to drive it, even the makers... :P Terribly delayed, terribly redefined* and when it comes out, dated.
