A complaint: This is getting totally ridiculous

OK, this has got to stop. The signal-to-noise ratio on user-submitted non-moderated article submissions is getting so low that I'm seriously considering dropping CodeProject as a resource. I can think of 5 or 6 completely garbage articles posted in the last couple of weeks; I'm not talking about possibly useful articles that are poorly formatted or poorly stated, I'm talking about COMPLETE GARBAGE. Copies of help files. People asking for help to learn how to program. People posting a description of their stupid proprietary technology, without posting the code for said technology (like QUIETTA's stupid articles). Lame, time-wasting articles with bullet points of why .NET is better than VB6. Seriously, I can handle people who use English as a second language posting useful articles; I can wade through and appreciate these articles for their useful content. But this garbage has got to, has GOT TO, stop.
If an article is painfully crap then send an email to webmaster@codeproject or submit@codeproject and we'll nuke it. We're doing our best to ensure that the article rating system ensures that crap articles are quickly buried. Tables of Contents list articles by score, the 'What's New' page allows you to set a minimal threshold, the best articles are highlighted on the homepage and the newsletter only lists articles above a 3.0. Complaints are always listened to, but it's far easier for me to respond to suggested ways to improve the system. cheers, Chris Maunder

Well, there is a purgatory section now. I don't recall if this is automatic or you have to email to Chris to get it put in. The CodeProject search engine does not search the purgatory section by default. Certain article should just be removed especially if they are rip offs from help files or questions that should be posted in one of the programming forums. A couple of good questions to ask are: What are the prerequisites to becoming an editor? How does one become an editor? --Colin Mackay--

Maybe. :-D I beleive the system that Chris has for this is good enough. Some months ago I wanted to delete one of my asrticles cause it was one of those useless articles, but I coudn't find it. I think it was deleted with one of those mechanisms,so I think its a fair job. :) Mazy No sig. available now.

Chris, I think you may have hit on my problem; I was not aware of the threshold safeguards. My primary method of accessing CodeProject is through your RSS feed, which appears to simply list ALL new submissions regardless of rating. Would it be possible to set up a configurable RSS feed, or, failing that (I realize that's non-trivial) maybe just modify the current RSS feed to arbitrarily filter out articles under, say, 3.0?
